Foxx, R. M.; And Others – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1986
Interactional behavior of two groups (N=3 females per group) of elderly mentally retarded group home residents was measured in two generalization situations before, during, and after one group received social skills training. Among conclusions were that generalization to natural interactional situations may be delayed following training.…

Martin, James E.; Mithaug, Dennis – B. C. Journal of Special Education, 1986
Examines self-control interventions considered effective in improving the performance of mentally retarded persons in acquiring, maintaining, and generalizing learned tasks. Studies employing self-monitoring, self-reinforcement, and antecedent cue regulation (self-instruction and picture cues) are cited. Picture cues are recommended as the most…

Chen, James J.; Novick, Melvin, R. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1984
The Libby-Novick class of three-parameter generalized beta distributions is shown to provide a rich class of prior distributions for the binomial model that removes some restrictions of the standard beta class. A numerical example indicates the desirability of using these wider classes of densities for binomial models. (Author/BW)

Schepis, Maureen M.; And Others – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1987
Four severely retarded females participated in a group instruction program involving designated trainer roles and both individual-directed and total group-directed procedures. Participants acquired the skills of stamping addresses on envelopes, successfully generalized the skill across an untrained type of envelope, and maintained the skill over…

Perkins, D. N.; Salomon, Gavriel – Educational Leadership, 1988
Students often fail to apply knowledge and skills learned in one context to other situations. Although the implicit assumption in educational practice has been that transfer takes care of itself, a knowledge of the mechanisms of transfer can enable educators to help their students integrate general and local knowledge. Guevremont, David D.; And Others – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1988
Four preschoolers (ages 4-5) received self-instructional training in overt and covert self-verbalizations. Treatment effects were evident in the training setting. Generalization of self-verbalizations to the classroom setting was related to changes in performance accuracy, on-task behavior, and efficiency in completing academic work. (Author/JW)

Wildman, Beth G.; And Others – Applied Research in Mental Retardation, 1986
The effectiveness of a training program in conversational skills was evaluated with seven community-dwelling mildly and moderately mentally retarded adults. Hupp, Susan C. – Analysis and Intervention in Developmental Disabilities, 1986
To explore training with multiple exemplars, six severely retarded students (ages 5-21) were taught signed labels for categories of natural objects using either three or five good examples. The arithmetic difference between the two conditions indicated higher levels of generalization following training with five examples for five of the six…
