Brown, Keith C. – 1972
Estimating the probability that a proposed bid will win is obviously a central problem in competitive bidding theory. Unfortunately, a method for doing this, which originated with Friedman and which continues to be expounded in the literature, is logically incorrect. This paper points out the deficiency in that formulation. (Author/MLF)

Morse, Philip M., Ed. – 1967
Operations research methods, such as system modeling, computer simulation, mathematical programing, and the application of the theory of stochastic processes, could have validity in the field of planning in the public sector. In this volume the use of these methods in the areas of local government, urban planning, traffic control, transportation…

Simkin, Mark G. – Collegiate Microcomputer, 1986
Uses a prototype decision problem to demonstrate usefulness of an electronic spreadsheet in analyzing decision trees and performing other types of decision analysis. Advantages and disadvantages of implementing operations research/management science models on electronic spreadsheets are discussed and some do's and don't's are suggested. (Author)

Page, Ellis B.; And Others – American Educational Research Journal, 1976
Constructing a problem for dynamic programming requires the listing of units, e.g., chapters, which might be included, together with possible levels of effort or cost and judged values for all usage levels. Given such a table and total permissable cost, a computer program will generate a prescription for optimal curriculum. (MV)

This survey questionnaire and self-analysis tool identifies most of the variables that impact institutional custodial operations and that serve as reliable standardized benchmarks for the industry. The survey also clearly defines several benchmarks that should allow more accurate and effective comparisons between operations. Sections cover…

Simpson, Peter – Journal of European Industrial Training, 2000
The red-blue exercise (a variation of "prisoner's dilemma") is poorly suited for its intended goal of developing skills in conflict management, negotiation, and group dynamics. However, it may be used as an educational tool that illustrates complex systems in action. (SK)

Florida Board of Governors, State University System, 2007
Students and their families must cover, on average, 83% of the roughly $16,000 cost of attendance for a full-time, in-state undergraduate at a state university in Florida. On average, 75% of the cost of attendance in Florida's public universities is from expenses other than tuition and fees and books. The largest expense is room and board,…

Ackerman, David S.; Gross, Barbara L. – Journal of Marketing Education, 2007
Procrastination can be a crucial factor inhibiting faculty success. Many important tasks, especially publications for promotion or tenure, are typically associated with deadlines that are far in the future. As a result, time management skills can make or break the success of new faculty. This study examines task characteristics of procrastination…
