Lawrence, Brian F.; Spuck, Dennis W. – AEDS Journal, 1979
The aim of the computerized grouping procedure was to facilitate the management of individualized programs of instruction by grouping students in accordance with a large number of teacher- and school-specified factors more efficiently than would be possible manually. (Author/IRT)
Descriptors: Cluster Grouping, Computer Managed Instruction, Elementary Secondary Education, Grouping (Instructional Purposes)

Krzystofiak, Frank; And Others – Personnel Psychology, 1979
Procedures used for developing a quantified job analysis system for managerial personnel in a power utility are described. Factor analysis of questionnaires yielded 60 job dimensions which were used to define position profiles and job clusters. The usefulness of this type of information for personnel decisions is discussed. (Author/SJL)
Descriptors: Administrators, Cluster Grouping, Job Analysis, Managerial Occupations

Stein, Gilbert D. – Physics Teacher, 1979
Discusses the existence of matter in smaller groups known as clusters. Applications of the findings in scientific studies are presented as they relate to technology. (SA)

Vandercook, Terri; Nelson, Marilyn; Montie, Jo; Bralts, Betsy – Principal, 1998
A new Minnesota school has succeeded in translating a noble, inclusive vision into reality. Asked to evaluate the school's first year, staff identified several accomplishments: presence of family-like communities of learners; focus on meeting individual special-education needs within these communities; celebration of diversity as a strength to…

Scott, Mike – System, 1997
Proposes and illustrates a method of identifying key words in text, and leads from this proposal to the notion of key key words (words that are key in many texts). Notes that a key key word has associates: words that are key in the same texts as a given key key word. Notes that these associates can be grouped together in clumps. (18 references)…

Benelli, Beatrice; And Others – Journal of Child Language, 1988
Results of three investigations of the development of word definitions indicated that younger childrens' definitions, including use or lack of use of superordinate categorical terms, fell short of adult informativeness, while, by age 10, children generally met such criteria in their definitions. (Author/CB)
Descriptors: Child Language, Children, Cluster Grouping, Cognitive Development

Rescorla, Leslie – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1988
Cluster analysis on factor analytic symptom profiles obtained from the Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist for 204 three- to five-year-old boys including 79 autistic and autistic-like children identified an autistic group as soon as three clusters were formed. This autistic cluster was later subdivided according to presence/absence of anxiety and…
Descriptors: Anxiety, Autism, Behavior Rating Scales, Check Lists

Schweizer, Karl – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1992
Two versions of a decision rule for determining the most appropriate number of clusters on the basis of a correlation matrix are presented, applied, and compared with three other decision rules. The new rule is efficient for determining the number of clusters on the surface level for multilevel data. (SLD)
Descriptors: Cluster Analysis, Cluster Grouping, Comparative Analysis, Correlation
McDonnell, John; And Others – Education and Training in Mental Retardation, 1991
This study with 39 secondary students with severe disabilities integrated into regular programs in either home schools or cluster programs found that the proportion of students residing outside the normal school boundaries and the percent of students classified as Severely Multiply Handicapped were both negatively associated with both in-school…

Meulman, Jacqueline J.; Verboon, Peter – Psychometrika, 1993
Points of view analysis, as a way to deal with individual differences in multidimensional scaling, was largely supplanted by the weighted Euclidean model. It is argued that the approach deserves new attention, especially as a technique to analyze group differences. A streamlined and integrated process is proposed. (SLD)
Descriptors: Cluster Grouping, Equations (Mathematics), Graphs, Groups

Ewert, Donnell P.; And Others – American Journal of Public Health, 1991
Examines the results of a household survey of measles vaccination coverage among Hispanic American children aged 12 to 59 months. Between 81 percent and 91 percent of the children have been vaccinated, a percentage insufficient to stop the high rate of measles transmission within this population. Recommends that public health efforts be focused on…

Bayer, Alan E.; And Others – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1990
Discusses the intellectual structure of the sciences and describes a study that was conducted to test the usefulness of author cocitation analysis for empirically deriving groupings of intellectual leaders in the field of sociology. Results are contrasted with traditional subjective methods of codification of a field. (35 references) (LRW)

Chopra, Raj K. – NASSP Bulletin, 1994
Facilitating communication and cooperation between principals and teachers, between principals and administrators, and among principals themselves can be accomplished by using a peer support system based on clustering. Fort Bend (Texas) Independent School District has benefited by creating 5 clusters of 8 to 10 elementary and secondary principals…

Rose, Christopher D. – Journal of Drug Education, 1999
Tests the premise of peer cluster theory as it applies to individual alcohol use, and makes a comparative analysis between its ability to explain alcohol use and marijuana use among college students (N=1312). Results of the causal models show some support for peer cluster theory. Discusses the study's limitations and implications. (Author/MKA)

Steyvers, Mark; Tenenbaum, Joshua B. – Cognitive Science, 2005
We present statistical analyses of the large-scale structure of 3 types of semantic networks: word associations, WordNet, and Roget's Thesaurus. We show that they have a small-world structure, characterized by sparse connectivity, short average path lengths between words, and strong local clustering. In addition, the distributions of the number of…
