Grossman, David A.; Frieder, Ophir; Holmes, David O.; Roberts, David C. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1997
Integrates structured data and text using the unchanged, standard relational model. The performance of a parallel relational database system and the effect of query reduction on accuracy were tested, and it was found that queries can be reduced prior to their implementation without incurring significant loss in precision/recall. (AEF)

Soergel, Dagobert – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1999
Classifications/ontologies, thesauri, and dictionaries serve many functions, which are summarized in this article. As a result of this multiplicity of functions, classifications--often called ontologies--are developed in many communities of research and practice.
