In a study of master's degree programs in industrial technology, it was concluded that, in general, the programs are not research oriented and demonstration of research competency, beyond satisfactorily completing a research methods course, is not a major requirement. A survey of 1976-78 graduates shows almost three-quarters in the labor force, with average salaries of $14,610 (men) and $12,020 (women). Unemployment rates were 9.8 percent (men) and 6.1 percent (women), higher for 1978 graduates. Over 40 percent pursued further training. Program implications are discussed. (MSE)
