Analysis of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores, grade point averages, graduate credits earned, and academic majors of 376 international graduate students indicate that TOEFL scores are not effective predictors of academic success. Undergraduate admission test scores were traced for Ph.D. recipients in eight arts and science disciplines and compared to the scores of those who earned degrees in business, law, and medicine.
