Simulations are a pedagogical learning tool that supports the preparation of future school leaders for a broad scope of leadership tasks, including instructional leadership. Educational leadership programs are tasked with preparing future leaders to apply effective instructional leadership practices in various types of interactions with teachers, including facilitating and leading teachers within a professional learning community (PLC). Effective facilitation of a PLC requires instructional leadership practices centered on teacher engagement and collaboration. Simulations, as an authentic learning experience, have the potential to support future school leaders' development of skills to lead PLCs. The purpose of this paper is to describe the creation of a newly developed PLC mixed reality experience, including scenario development, piloting, and initial student perceptions of the PLC mixed reality experience in an educational leadership master's program.
