Peer reviewedMorsbach, Gisela; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1975
This study investigated (a) interscorer reliability of the Bender-Gestalt Test by using more than one person to score the same test protocols; and (b) rate-rerate reliability of the Bender-Gestalt Test after a half-year interval. (Author)

Lord, Frederic M. – 1973
Omitted items cannot properly be treated as wrong when estimating ability and item parameters. A convenient method for utilizing the information provided by omissions is presented. Some theoretical and considerable empirical justification is adduced for the estimates obtained by both old and new methods. (Author)
Descriptors: Mathematical Models, Probability, Psychometrics, Research Reports
Swineford, Frances – 1973
Results obtained by the Kudar-Richardson formula (20) adapted for use with R-KW scoring are compared with three other reliability formulas. Based on parallel tests administered at the same sitting the KR (20) estimates are compared with alternate-form correlations and with odd-even correlations adjusted by the Spearman-Brown prophecy formula.…

Heerman, Charles E.; Treadway, Kathryn A. – Viewpoints in Teaching and Learning, 1978
The cloze procedure, initially proven to be an effective measure of passage difficulty, is currently used as an assessment technique and an instructional method for enhancing reading comprehension. Through the use of the cloze procedure educators are able to investigate closely the processes of reading comprehension. (Author)

Peer reviewedAlbanese, Mark A. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1988
Estimates of the effects of use of formula scoring on the individual examinee's score are presented. Results for easy, moderate, and hard tests are examined. Using test characteristics from several studies shows that some examinees would increase scores substantially if they were to answer items omitted under formula directions. (SLD)
Descriptors: Difficulty Level, Guessing (Tests), Scores, Scoring Formulas
Peer reviewedCampbell, Brian; Wilson, Bradley J. – Journal of School Psychology, 1986
Investigated Kaufman's procedures for determining intersubtest scatter on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised by means of Sattler's revised tables for determining significant subtest fluctuations. Results indicated that Sattler's revised tables yielded more conservative estimates of subtest scatter than those originally reported…

Peer reviewedWard, L. Charles – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1986
Equations were derived for estimating MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) scores from a short form developed for cognitively impaired individuals. Multiple regression analyses demonstrated that prediction from a single short-form scale was acceptable and was little improved by the addition of other scales or sex of subject to the…
Descriptors: Mental Retardation, Personality Measures, Predictive Validity, Scoring Formulas
Peer reviewedWilcox, Rand R. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1982
A new model for measuring misinformation is suggested. A modification of Wilcox's strong true-score model, to be used in certain situations, is indicated, since it solves the problem of correcting for guessing without assuming guessing is random. (Author/GK)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Guessing (Tests), Mathematical Models, Scoring Formulas
Peer reviewedAnderson, Barbara; Rallis, Kathryn – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1981
Results of this study suggest that children (ages 6-16) with a sufficient number of emotional indicators (three or more) to create a suspicion of emotional disturbance do not recall significantly fewer Bender designs than do children whose indicators fall within normal limits. (Author/SJL)
Descriptors: Correlation, Elementary Secondary Education, Emotional Disturbances, Recall (Psychology)
Peer reviewedMiller, Lamoine J.; And Others – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1980
This study assessed the utility of Bannatyne's recategorization of the WISC-R with a group of 97 adjudicated adolescents who varied in intelligence. Findings affirmed the extension of Bannatyne's recategorization to samples other than genetic dyslexics and supported his major hypothesis of stronger spatial than sequential abilities. (Author/SJL)

Peer reviewedHsu, Louis M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
Though the Paired-Item-Score (Eakin and Long) (EJ 174 780) method of scoring true-false tests has certain advantages over the traditional scoring methods (percentage right and right minus wrong), these advantages are attained at the cost of a larger risk of misranking the examinees. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Comparative Analysis, Guessing (Tests), Objective Tests, Probability
Peer reviewedFrary, Robert B. – Applied Measurement in Education, 1989
Multiple-choice response and scoring methods that attempt to determine an examinee's degree of knowledge about each item in order to produce a total test score are reviewed. There is apparently little advantage to such schemes; however, they may have secondary benefits such as providing feedback to enhance learning. (SLD)
Descriptors: Knowledge Level, Multiple Choice Tests, Scoring, Scoring Formulas
Peer reviewedMcKenzie, Dean P.; Clarke, David M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1992
A FORTRAN program is described that aids in construction of screening tests by performing a type of Receiver Operating Characteristic analysis as well as calculating measures such as sensitivity and specificity. CUTOFF could be applied in any setting where the optional cutoff for separating persons into two classes is required. (Author/SLD)
