Yaple, Newell; And Others – Journal of Dental Education, 1992
The process used in Ohio to reform the state dental licensing examination and incorporate a nonpatient (simulated) clinical procedure is described and the results summarized. Findings focus on the degree to which results of the new testing procedures differentiate dental students by class rank. (MSE)

Ross, Shelagh – Physics Education, 1991
Several ways of exploring the subject of global warming within the context of a conventional physics syllabus are suggested. The physics underlying greenhouse phenomena, the process of modelling (especially computers), possible future climatic scenarios, and the differing nature of the uncertainties associated with the many fields of study that…

Verschaffel, Lieven; And Others – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1992
To test the Lewis and Mayer simulation model (1987) for understanding compare problems, 3 experiments involving 39 college students and 15 third graders used registration of eye movements. Two experiments somewhat support the model, suggesting it holds true only when the task puts cognitive demands on the subject. (SLD)

Lawson, Kenneth A.; And Others – American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, 1991
A study compared the effectiveness of traditional and computer-simulation methods for teaching pharmacy financial management in continuing education. Retention of material was similar for the groups (n=26 and n=24 students, respectively), and similar amounts of time spent on financial management were found in a followup. Both methods were found…

Strauss, Richard T.; Kinzie, Mable B. – American Biology Teacher, 1991
The debate on the educational value of dissection versus the value of animal life is examined. Interactive videodisc (IVD) technology is described in light of its potential for laboratory simulations. The design of the IVD-based dissection simulation, The Interactive Frog Dissection, is presented. (KR)

Atkins, Thomas; Roderick, Joyce MacFall – American Biology Teacher, 1991
An activity that introduces students to the concepts of independent assortment of alleles during meiosis and gametogenesis, the richness of the variation that occurs as a result of allele recombination, and the unique phenotypes of offspring. Reproducible handouts with the directions and model chromosomes are provided. (KR)
