Doehring, Donald G.; Swisher, Linda P. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, 1971
The Bekesy and Rosenberg procedures were used to investigate whether tone decay varies systematically as a function of the initial hearing threshold level of the test tone in sensorineural loss. Tone decay tended to increase with increased hearing threshold level for both tests at all three frequencies used. (Author/KW)

Arkebauer, Herbert J.; Mencher, George T. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1971
Testing of patients with bilateral asymmetrical hearing losses for differences in speech discrimination under varying listening conditions showed detrimental interaction between ears. Also, when difference between ears was greater, speech discrimination was better, and the greater the impairment in better ear, the greater results obtained by…

Green, David M. – American Psychologist, 1983
Analyzes a method of detecting changes in a particular frequency band by evaluating the overall shape or profile of the auditory signal spectrum. Claims that profile analysis is different from intensity discrimination, and applies the new method to detecting noise sinusoid and to results obtained when signal frequency is uncertain. Brandes, Pauline J.; Ehinger, Diane M. – Journal of Speech and Hearing Disorders, 1981
Two groups of 15 children (7 to 9 years old) were compared on auditory perceptual skills and academic achievement. Ss with conductive loss (CL) had histories of middle ear pathology. Overall performance of the CL Ss was significantly lower than a normal control group's, with specific deficiencies in auditory perceptual areas. (CL)

Lounsbury, Mary L.; Bates, John E. – Child Development, 1982
The meaning of mothers' perceptions of their infants' temperamental "difficultness" was explored in three ways. Subjective ratings were elicited from mothers who listened to the cries of four- to six-month-old infants who were not their own. Acoustic properties of the cries of the infants were measured and effects of a variety of…

Weingarten, Merri; Anisfeld, Moshe – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1981
Children 6- to 7- and 9- to 10-years-old listened to pairs of words presented dichotically to the left and right ear either simultaneously or in immediate succession. Results indicated that pragmatic, serial relations dominate younger children's semantic organization, whereas logical, hierarchical relations dominate older children's semantic…

Jones, Mari Riess; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1981
Three studies compared effects of different rhythmic contexts on order judgments of targets embedded in auditory patterns designed to manifest auditory stream segregation. The magnitude of the captor effect varied with temporal predictability of flanking and/or target tones. A pairwise rhythm was likely to improve judgments by facilitating…
