Friedman, C. Jack; And Others – Adolescence, 1975
This study was designed to fill the need for empirically derived information to determine the most salient factors which differentiate street gang youths from youths in comparable neighborhoods who remain independent of the street gang. (Author)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Evaluation Criteria, Individual Characteristics, Juvenile Gangs

Malgady, Robert G.; Huck, Schuyler W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The t ratio used in testing the difference between two independent regression coefficients is generalized to the multivariate case of testing the difference between two vectors of regression coefficients. This is particularly useful in determining which of two variables best predicts a number of criterion variables. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Correlation, Hypothesis Testing, Matrices, Multiple Regression Analysis

Marjoribanks, Kevin – Alberta Journal of Educational Research, 1978
This study goes beyond much of previous research by using regression models to generate regression surfaces and by including measures of family and school environments in analyzing relations between personality and measures of cognitive and affective characteristics in Australian 12-year-old children. (Author/KR)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Affective Behavior, Children, Educational Environment

Krus, David J.; Krus, Patricia H. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1978
The conceptual differences between coded regression analysis and traditional analysis of variance are discussed. Also, a modification of several SPSS routines is proposed which allows for direct interpretation of ANOVA and ANCOVA results in a form stressing the strength and significance of scrutinized relationships. (Author)

Rosenthal, William; Spaner, Steven D. – Multiple Linear Regression Viewpoints, 1978
A data set from the area of clinical psychology was used to show how multiple regression analysis could be used where analysis of variance might more commonly be used. (JKS)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Clinical Psychology, Computer Programs, Data Analysis

Woehlke, Paula L.; And Others – Multiple Linear Regression Viewpoints, 1978
Recent criticism in the literature of the use of inferential statistics in educational research is refuted. The authors focus on the defense of multiple regression analysis. (JKS)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Correlation, Data Analysis, Educational Research

Anderson, James G. – American Educational Research Journal, 1978
The causal modelling technique is extended to nonrecursive causal models that involve feedback and/or reciprocal causation. Three least squares techniques for estimating parameters are described, and data from an empirical study illustrate the causal modelling technique. (Author/GDC)
Descriptors: Educational Research, Feedback, Least Squares Statistics, Mathematical Models

Raymond, Mark R.; Roberts, Dennis M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
Data were simulated to conform to covariance patterns taken from personnel selection literature. Incomplete data matrices were treated by four methods. Treated matrices were subjected to multiple regression analyses. Resulting regression equations were compared to equations from original, complete data. Results supported using covariate…

Distefano, M. K., Jr.; Pryer, Margaret W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1987
From 13 objective interview items, five with adequate response variability were studied to determine if they would improve the validity of a verbal ability selection test in predicting work performance of 181 psychiatric aide trainees. In a multiple regression analysis, the verbal test correlated .27 with the weighted composite rating score.…

Wampold, Bruce E.; Freund, Richard D. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1987
Explains multiple regression, demonstrates its flexibility for analyzing data from various designs, and discusses interpretation of results from multiple regression analysis. Presents regression equations for single independent variable and for two or more independent variables, followed by a discussion of coefficients related to these. Compares…

Widaman, Keith F. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1987
The reviewer praises the book as a good elementary introduction to theory and method in factor analysis as it applies to psychometrics and social science research. (TJH)
Descriptors: Correlation, Estimation (Mathematics), Factor Analysis, Latent Trait Theory

Trabasso, Tom; Van Den Broek, Paul – Journal of Memory and Language, 1985
Presents a comparative reanalysis of two studies into why some story events are more memorable than other events. Also proposes a theoretical account of the identified variables (story-grammar category, causal chain, causal connectivity factors to recall, and other measures of story understanding) and their influence on the comprehension of…

Burleson, Brant R.; And Others – Human Communication Research, 1984
Strongly confirmed the hypothesis that groups employing an interacting decision procedure would produce better decisions than groups employing procedures that are either nominal (Delphi) or "staticized" (individual judgments statistically pooled). Provides clear and consistent support for the value of social interaction in small group…

Moore, Ray T.; Davies, Jon A. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
Prediction of General Educational Development (GED) scores from motivational variables derived from Vroom's expectancy-valence theorem was hypothesized. The Tests of Adult Basic Education score, General Aptitude Test Battery score, MD1 expectancy subscale score, and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory defensiveness score accounted for…

Stark, Joan S.; Lowther, Malcolm A. – Educational Administration Quarterly, 1984
Analysis of responses from 536 teachers revealed that teachers' background and professional attitudes were related to their views toward six specific types of evaluation. Multifaceted approaches may be required in order to realize consensus regarding teacher evaluation. (MLF)
