Wedman, Ingemar – Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 1981
Describes a procedure, called a full Bayesian procedure, for making decisions in connection with criterion-referenced measurements. The procedure uses continuous utility functions instead of a dichotomized utility structure and combines the posterior distribution for a certain person with utility functions for "advance" and "retain" decisions…

Foschi, Martha; Foschi, Ricardo – Social Psychology Quarterly, 1979
The effect of performance evaluations on expectations for future performances is studied using an extension of a Bayesian model. Whereas the model was originally limited to the cases where person C is both an actor and an observer, in the present extension these become particular cases of the model. (Author/RD)

Bock, R. Darrell; And Others – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1988
A method of item factor analysis is described, which is based on Thurstone's multiple-factor model and implemented by marginal maximum likelihood estimation and the EM algorithm. Also assessed are the statistical significance of successive factors added to the model, provisions for guessing and omitted items, and Bayes constraints. (TJH)

Harwell, Michael R.; Baker, Frank B. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1991
Previous work on the mathematical and implementation details of the marginalized maximum likelihood estimation procedure is extended to encompass the marginalized Bayesian procedure for estimating item parameters of R. J. Mislevy (1986) and to communicate this procedure to users of the BILOG computer program. (SLD)

Verguts, Tom; De Boeck, Paul – Applied Psychological Measurement, 2000
Developed an extension of the Rasch model from a Bayesian point of view and used the model to study whether learning occurred throughout a computer-administered intelligence test. Results from 137 college students indicate that learning did occur and that there might be individual differences in learning rate. (SLD)

Darvin, Jacqueline – Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, 2006
This article discusses situated cognition research and its impact on literacy studies concepts and instruction. It provides a brief historical comparison of cognitive psychology and situated cognition and emphasizes the importance of understanding the complex relationships that exist between learners, the settings in which they engage in cognitive…

Levy, Roy; Mislevy, Robert J. – International Journal of Testing, 2004
The challenges of modeling students' performance in computer-based interactive assessments include accounting for multiple aspects of knowledge and skill that arise in different situations and the conditional dependencies among multiple aspects of performance. This article describes a Bayesian approach to modeling and estimating cognitive models…

Gresham, Frank M.; McIntyre, Laura Lee; Olson-Tinker, Heidi; Dolstra, Lisa; McLaughlin, Veronica; Van, Mai – Research in Developmental Disabilities: A Multidisciplinary Journal, 2004
The Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Amendments of 1997 mandate the use of functional behavioral assessment (FBA) and positive behavioral supports and interventions for students with disabilities. Although much progress has been made in our understanding of functional analysis over the past 15 years, the extent to which these…

Revuelta, Javier – Psychometrika, 2004
Two psychometric models are presented for evaluating the difficulty of the distractors in multiple-choice items. They are based on the criterion of rising distractor selection ratios, which facilitates interpretation of the subject and item parameters. Statistical inferential tools are developed in a Bayesian framework: modal a posteriori…

Segawa, Eisuke – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 2005
Multi-indicator growth models were formulated as special three-level hierarchical generalized linear models to analyze growth of a trait latent variable measured by ordinal items. Items are nested within a time-point, and time-points are nested within subject. These models are special because they include factor analytic structure. This model can…

Penfield, Randall D. – Applied Measurement in Education, 2006
This study applied the maximum expected information (MEI) and the maximum posterior-weighted information (MPI) approaches of computer adaptive testing item selection to the case of a test using polytomous items following the partial credit model. The MEI and MPI approaches are described. A simulation study compared the efficiency of ability…

Webb, Thomas L.; Sheeran, Paschal – Psychological Bulletin, 2006
Numerous theories in social and health psychology assume that intentions cause behaviors. However, most tests of the intention- behavior relation involve correlational studies that preclude causal inferences. In order to determine whether changes in behavioral intention engender behavior change, participants should be assigned randomly to a…

Hartz, Sarah; Roussos, Louis – ETS Research Report Series, 2008
This paper presents the development of the fusion model skills diagnosis system (fusion model system), which can help integrate standardized testing into the learning process with both skills-level examinee parameters for modeling examinee skill mastery and skills-level item parameters, giving information about the diagnostic power of the test.…

Quezada, Reyes L.; Alfaro, Cristina – Teacher Education Quarterly, 2007
In an article published in the "International Education Journal" entitled "Beyond Educational Tourism: Lessons Learned While Student Teaching Abroad," Quezada (2005) provides an overview of the literature regarding student teaching abroad experiences. This article summarizes his literature review and applies the findings to a…

Maralani, Vida – Teachers College Record, 2007
Background/Context: This essay reviews recent demographic literature on school transitions. I describe how a demographic perspective, by which I mean using methods that are standard in the study of population processes, is a useful way to examine differences in access to and completion of post secondary schooling in the United States.…
