Bingham, Brad; Ilg, Sherrie; Davidson, Neil – Public Personnel Management, 2002
The state of Washington's Department of Personnel has adopted an Internet system for online job application, screening, testing, scoring, and interview referral. Candidate certifications are tailored to job skill requirements specified by personnel managers, giving managers flexible access to a pool of high-quality job candidates. (SK)

McLeod, Lori Davis; Lewis, Charles – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1999
Evaluated procedures applying person-fit indices to identify individuals who had previously memorized test items in computerized adaptive-testing situations. All of the indices studied showed little power to detect the use of memorization. Discusses possibilities for altering a test when the model becomes inappropriate for an examinee. (SLD)

Meijer, Rob R.; Nering, Michael L. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1999
Provides an overview of computerized adaptive testing (CAT) and introduces contributions to this special issue. CAT elements discussed include item selection, estimation of the latent trait, item exposure, measurement precision, and item-bank development. (SLD)

Vispoel, Walter P.; Boo, Jaeyool; Bleiler, Timothy – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2001
Evaluated the characteristics of computerized and paper-and-pencil versions of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES) using scores for 224 college students. Results show that mode of administration has little effect on the psychometric properties of the SES although the computerized version took longer and was preferred by examinees. (SLD)

Gati, Itamar; Saka, Noa – Journal of Career Assessment, 2001
The Career Decision-Making Difficulties Questionnaire was completed in a Hebrew paper version (n=417) and Internet version (n=837), showing similar internal consistency and reliability in both versions. Response pattern of 24% of Internet users was questionable. Comparison of results from English paper (n=403) and Internet (n=182) versions found…

Skaggs, Gary – Educational Measurement: Issues and Practice, 2004
Research on psychometric methods is heavily dependent on software. The quality, availability, and documentation of such software are critical to the advancement of the field. In 2000, an ad hoc committee of NCME recommended that NCME adopt policies that promote greater availability and better documentation of software. This article follows the ad…

Xing, Dehui; Hambleton, Ronald K. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2004
Computer-based testing by credentialing agencies has become common; however, selecting a test design is difficult because several good ones are available - parallel forms, computer adaptive (CAT), and multistage (MST). In this study, three computer-based test designs under some common examination conditions were investigated. Item bank size and…

Allbritton, David – Discourse Processes: A Multidisciplinary Journal, 2004
Although some types of inferences are mandatory for readers, predictive inferences (inferences for what will happen next) are generally considered elaborative or optional. Three experiments measuring probe word lexical decision latencies produced evidence for the online generation of predictive inferences during narrative text comprehension.…

Ozonoff, Sally; Cook, Ian; Coon, Hilary; Dawson, Geraldine; Joseph, Robert M.; Klin, Ami; McMahon, William M.; Minshew, Nancy; Munson, Jeffrey A. – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 2004
Recent structural and functional imaging work, as well as neuropathology and neuropsychology studies, provide strong empirical support for the involvement of frontal cortex in autism. The Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery (CANTAB) is a computer-administered set of neuropsychological tests developed to examine specific components…

MacCann, Robert – British Journal of Educational Technology, 2006
A trial of pen-and-paper and online modes of a computing skills test was conducted for volunteer students of ages 15-16 in New South Wales, Australia. The tests comprised Matching, True/False and 4-option Multiple-Choice items. The aims were to determine whether gender, socio economic status (SES), or the type of item interacted with testing mode.…

van der Linden, Wim J.; Veldkamp, Bernard P. – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 2004
Item-exposure control in computerized adaptive testing is implemented by imposing item-ineligibility constraints on the assembly process of the shadow tests. The method resembles Sympson and Hetter's (1985) method of item-exposure control in that the decisions to impose the constraints are probabilistic. The method does not, however, require…

Yan, Duanli; Lewis, Charles; Stocking, Martha – Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, 2004
It is unrealistic to suppose that standard item response theory (IRT) models will be appropriate for all the new and currently considered computer-based tests. In addition to developing new models, we also need to give attention to the possibility of constructing and analyzing new tests without the aid of strong models. Computerized adaptive…
