Cantor, Judy; And Others – Intelligence, 1991
Using 49 undergraduates, short-term memory (STM) spans, STM probe-recall tasks, and complex working memory (WM) spans were studied to assess the relationships among STM, WM, and verbal ability. Results indicate that STM and WM are separate cognitive constructs, and that both STM and WM are important to verbal abilities. (SLD)

Warfarin dosing for thromboprophylaxis in post-operative patients is time-consuming. Krampe, Ralf Th.; Mayr, Ulrich; Kliegl, Reinhold – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 2005
The authors demonstrate that the timing and sequencing of target durations require low-level timing and executive control. Sixteen young (M-sub(age) = 19 years) and 16 older (M-sub(age) = 70 years) adults participated in 2 experiments. In Experiment 1, individual mean-variance functions for low-level timing (isochronous tapping) and the sequencing…

Mazor, Kathleen M.; And Others – 1993
The Mantel-Haenszel (MH) procedure has become one of the most popular procedures for detecting differential item functioning (DIF). One of the most troublesome criticisms of this procedure is that while detection rates for uniform DIF are very good, the procedure is not sensitive to non-uniform DIF. In this study, examinee responses were generated…
