Adema, Jos J. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1990
Mixed integer linear programing models for customizing two-stage tests are presented. Model constraints are imposed with respect to test composition, administration time, inter-item dependencies, and other practical considerations. The models can be modified for use in the construction of multistage tests. (Author/TJH)

Stevens, Ronald H.; And Others – Academic Medicine, 1989
A study to determine the feasibility of creating and administering computer-based problem-solving examinations for evaluating second-year medical students in immunology and to determine how students would perform on these tests relative to their performances on concurrently administered objective and essay examinations is described. (Author/MLW)

Abrioux, Dominique A. M. X. – Journal of Distance Education, 1989
Discussion of the use of computer-assisted instruction in distance education focuses on computer-assisted language learning (CALL). Topics discussed include computer-managed instruction (CMI); computer-aided learning (CAL); computer conferencing; the current status of CALL hardware; computer-assisted tests; summative evaluation; and theories of…

Dempsey, John V.; Wager, Susan U. – Educational Technology, 1988
Discusses and defines immediate and delayed feedback as they apply to computer-assisted instruction and testing. A research classification matrix is presented to provide a framework for classifying existing feedback studies and to guide future research, and a sample bibliography classified according to the matrix is given. McLeod, John – Journal of Reading, Writing, and Learning Disabilities International, 1989
A prototype expert system for the diagnosis of elementary students experiencing educational problems is described. After input of initial data, the system provides guidance on what further information might be sought and/or what remedial activities might be beneficial. The system includes databases of tests and remedial materials and strategies.…

Berger, Steven G.; And Others – Assessment, 1994
As part of a neuropsychological assessment, 95 adult patients completed either standard or computerized versions of the Category Test. Subjects who completed the computerized version exhibited more errors than those who completed the standard version, suggesting that it may be more difficult. (SLD)

Hetter, Rebecca D.; And Others – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1994
Effects on computerized adaptive test score of using a paper-and-pencil (P&P) calibration to select items and estimate scores were compared with effects of using computer calibration. Results with 2,999 Navy recruits support the use of item parameters calibrated from either P&P or computer administrations. (SLD)

Maddux, Cleborne D. – Diagnostique, 1989
There are several points to be considered to prevent misuse when integrating microcomputing into the assessment process. Computerizing an activity does not automatically improve that activity. Computer use is appropriate for computing test scores and storing student data but not for interpreting data. (JDD)

Fuchs, Lynn S.; And Others – Teaching Exceptional Children, 1992
This review of computer applications for curriculum-based measurement for students with disabilities looks at available software that provides automatic test administration, scoring, and feedback; automatic graphed analysis for teachers; and supplementary skills analysis. Such applications can save teacher time and provide accurate information…

Page, Ellis Batten – Journal of Experimental Education, 1994
National Assessment of Educational Progress writing sample essays from 1988 and 1990 (495 and 599 essays) were subjected to computerized grading and human ratings. Cross-validation suggests that computer scoring is superior to a two-judge panel, a finding encouraging for large programs of essay evaluation. (SLD)

Rae, Gordon – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1991
A brief overview is provided of the Conger-Lipshitz approach to estimating the reliability of a profile or test battery. A computational example from a recent study shows how canonical reliability can be obtained through existing statistical software. (SLD)

Pryor, Robert G. L. – Psychological Test Bulletin, 1991
The following issues in psychological testing in Australia are reviewed: (1) commercialization of testing; (2) test user qualifications; and (3) computerization of testing. Proposed solutions include development of user guidelines, accreditation standards, test standards, and a network of test data information; and regulation by a professional…

Jones, W. Paul – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1993
Investigated model for reducing time for administration of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) using real-data simulation of Bayesian scaling in computerized adaptive administration. Findings from simulation study using data from 127 undergraduates are strongly supportive of use of Bayesian scaled computerized adaptive administration of MBTI.…
