An "americanismo" is defined as a lexical item used in Spanish America but not found in Castilian Spanish or not used there with the same frequency or meaning. A corresponding definition of a "castellanismo" is suggested. Checklists including American Spanish, English, and Castilian are given for each category. (RM)
