Investigates, in 34 handicapped preschoolers, the role of examiner familiarity in the performance of tasks requiring high or low levels of symbolic mediation. Subjects performed better with familiar examiners on tasks requiring high symbolic mediation; no differential performance was obtained on items requiring low symbolic mediation. (Author/RH)

Spelling error patterns of 30 disabled readers (grades 3 through 6) were compared to error patterns of 40 younger able readers (grades 1 through 3), and 37 able readers of the same age. Discriminant analyses indicated distinguishing patterns, primarily between the disabled readers and the older able readers. (Author/SEW)

Reading disabled adolescents with specific learning disabilities were compared to normal adolescent readers and young normal readers (total N=48). Results showed that context facilitated both decoding and meaning recognition for normal readers, and reading disabled adolescents showed deficits on both tasks. (Author/CL)
