Suggests that students can improve their memory of Scholastic Aptitude Test vocabulary words by associating the words with corresponding pictures taken from magazines. Finds that long-term recall of words associated with pictures was higher than recall of words not associated with pictures. (RS)

Anglin, Jeremy M. – Monographs of the Society for Research in Child Development, 1993
Tested children in grades one, three, and five on their knowledge of a large sample of words. Found that comprehension of derived words improved dramatically from grade one to grade five and that words consisting of more than two morphemes were not well known by first graders but were relatively better known by fifth graders.
