A survey seeking basic information about elementary school foreign-language instruction in Michigan indicated that the programs generally have goals relevant to current literature, are diverse, are generally meeting their goals, and are well accepted by educators, parents, and the community. (CB)

A bibliography of tests designed for both English and French second language programs in Canada gives bibliographical details, specifies the target audience (core French, French immersion, French native language), describes the test structure and content, and provides a target-audience index and directory of distributors. A program offering a FLES field experience course for undergraduate language majors is described. Preparation of the student teachers, lesson planning, materials and instructional techniques are discussed. Students' reactions and evaluations are presented, along with suggestions for implementing a similar program. (CHK)

Some of the problems encountered by elementary grade second language pupils when they do uncontextualized written exercises in numbered lists from a course book are discussed. Ways to partially overcome such problems are suggested. (RM)
