Discussion of the problem of automation in the workplace with references to libraries focuses on the person/machine interface of visual display terminals (VDT). Evaluated the adjustment of 31 employees to a transition from private or semiprivate rooms to an open-space office. Adjustment was assessed by means of a job satisfaction model with three independent variables: job context, job content, and privacy.
