Peer reviewedKatz, Judith Milstein – Child Development, 1971
A study to determine whether the differential development of conceptual tempo can predict preferences. Conceptual tempo predicted preferences in color-form sorting among 67 children ranging in age from 44 to 65 months. (WY)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Color, Conceptual Tempo, Preschool Children

Peer reviewedOwen, Dean H. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1971
Comparisons of the regression profile and correlations of physical measures with latency for a 5-year-old subject (who performed 1250 trials in a form recognition task) with those for a group of 25 adults indicated that use of form information was highly consistent across age levels. (Author/WY)

Peer reviewedCathcart, W. George; Liedtke, Werner – Arithmetic Teacher, 1969
Report of research to test the hypothesis that reflective students would be higher achievers in mathematics than impulsive pupils. An achievement test was developed to measure understanding of mathematical concepts and applications, ability to solve verbal problems and recall basic facts. Data suggest that reflective students obtain better…
Descriptors: Achievement, Comparative Analysis, Grade 2, Grade 3
Peer reviewedWiegersma, P. H.; Van der Velde, A. – Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry and Allied Disciplines, 1983
Comparisons between a group of deaf children and normal-hearing controls on an extensive test battery revealed that the former group was clearly inferior both in general dynamic coordination and in visual-motor coordination. (MP)
Descriptors: Children, Comparative Analysis, Deafness, Foreign Countries
Peer reviewedDykes, James R., Jr. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1981
Three experiments employed rectangles in stimulus identification tasks. It was concluded that the initial perceptual processing of rectangles is accomplished by separate dimensional analyzers operating in parallel. Observers adopt different decision strategies for negatively correlated sets and for single dimension sets when the number of…

Peer reviewedWade, Michael G.; And Others – American Journal of Mental Deficiency, 1982
The degree to which response complexity affects the ability of moderately mentally retarded adults to perform on a coincident timing task was examined in two experiments. Analyses of both constant and variable error scores suggested that an optimal exposure distance for the task existed. (Author)

Peer reviewedDosher, Barbara Anne – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 1982
The accuracy of sentence memory and the retrieval speed are jointly measured using a speed-accuracy trade-off paradigm. Results indicate that speed of retrieval from network representations is remarkably invariant over network size and distance, although increased sentence size results in a slight slowing in retrieval-speed parameters.
