Viernstein, Nikolaus – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1990
A new coefficient--psi-star--is presented for measuring agreement on bidirectional response continua. The coefficient is designed to measure agreement in larger square contingency tables with even numbers of rows and columns. Advantages of the procedure are discussed. (SLD)

Whiting, Bruce G. – Journal of Creative Behavior, 1988
Research reports are reviewed which illustrate the close ties between creativity and entrepreneurship. Comparisons of the characteristics and behavior typical of creative individuals and entrepreneurial individuals indicate the existence of striking similarities. (JDD)

Chapman, Michael; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1990
Interviews with 180 second, fourth, and sixth graders concerning control beliefs, agency beliefs, and means-ends beliefs showed that only agency beliefs were strongly and consistently related to cognitive performance. (RH)

Joe, George W.; Mendoza, Jorge L. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1989
A response to comments on internal correlation for statistical analysis, as proposed by the present authors (1989), is provided. Focus is on issues raised by W. W. Rozeboom (1989). Comments by J. H. Schuenemeyer (1989) and R. Bargmann (1989) are briefly considered. (TJH)

Nelson, Michael J. – Information Processing and Management, 1988
Describes a study that collected statistics on the occurrence of terms used in searching an online catalog and investigated the correlation of the selection of terms with their occurrence in indexing. The discussion of the results includes implications for indexing theories. (19 references) (CLB)

Perez, Cynthia M.; Widom, Cathy Spatz – Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal, 1994
This study comparing 413 adults who had been abused and/or neglected as children with a control group (n=286) found significant differences between groups in IQ and reading ability, even when controlling for age, sex, race, and social class. Types of maltreatment were associated with differences in IQ and reading ability. (Author/DB)

Piedmont, Ralph L.; Hyland, Michael E. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1993
The use of mean inter-item correlation as a technique for examining homogeneity is proposed as a descriptive tool that can orient researchers to salient aspects of their scales. A study of 341 undergraduates who completed the NEO Personality Inventory illustrates the technique. (SLD)

Rushton, J. Philippe – Intelligence, 1994
Cranial capacities are calculated from external head measurements reported for 40 samples (tens of thousands of subjects) from a 1990 review of ergonomically important body measurements compiled by the International Labour Office. The correlation between brain size and intelligence for groups and individuals is discussed. (SLD)

Thompson, Bruce – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1995
Use of the bootstrap method in a canonical correlation analysis to evaluate the replicability of a study's results is illustrated. More confidence may be vested in research results that replicate. (SLD)

Bates, Tim; And Others – Intelligence, 1995
A study measuring average evoked potentials in 21 college students finds that intelligence test scores correlate significantly with the difference between string length in attended and nonattended conditions, a finding that suggests that previous inconsistencies in reporting string length-intelligence correlations may have resulted from confound…

Gluck, Myke – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1995
Presents brief accounts of the user-based performance measure of relevance and the information system-based performance measure of competence. Results of an experiment are reported that used a geographic information system to illustrate how collecting and analyzing data from both a system and a user view of performance can be beneficial. (73…

Mellou, Eleni – Early Child Development and Care, 1995
Examined the relationship between dramatic play and creativity from three perspectives: (1) the existing theories related to the association; (2) the research on this issue; and (3) some situational factors of dramatic play related to this relationship. Most of the research supports the relationship between dramatic play and creativity, noting the…

Landrine, Hope; Klonoff, Elizabeth A. – Journal of Black Psychology, 1995
Studied African American culture, using a new, shortened, 33-item African American Acculturation Scale (AAAS-33) to assess the scale's validity and reliability. Comparisons between the original form and AAAS-33 reveal high correlations, however, the longer form may be sensitive to some beliefs, practices, and attitudes not assessed by the short…

Cronin, Blaise; And Others – Journal of Documentation, 1992
An analysis of the acknowledgments accompanying scholarly articles in 4 information and library science journals over a 20-year period showed that a small number of individuals are acknowledged frequently whereas most individuals are infrequently acknowledged. A positive correlation between frequency of acknowledgments and citations was found.…

Bourbon, W. Thomas – American Behavioral Scientist, 1990
Uses a behavior model from control systems theory to analyze how we coordinate our own and each other's physical movements. Tests one person controlling a cursor with one handle or two, and two people controlling a cursor with two handles. Shows that control theory accurately predicts the results. (CH)
