Peer reviewedKoopman, Raymond F. – Psychometrika, 1978
It is shown that the common and unique variance estimates produced by a type of estimation procedure for the unrestricted common factor model have a predictable sum which is always greater than the maximum likelihood estimate of the total variance. A simple alternative method of specifying the Bayesian parameters required by the procedure is…

Peer reviewedScheier, Michael F.; And Others – Journal of Research in Personality, 1978
Private self-consciousness consists of attending to one's thoughts, feelings, and motives. Public self-consciousness consists of attending to oneself as a social object. The effect of dispositional self-consciousness on the accuracy of self-reports was studied in research on aggression. (Editor)

Peer reviewedLubin, Bernard; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1978
In order to determine the correlates of depressive mood, members of a women's volunteer organization were surveyed by a mailed questionnaire that included the Depression Adjective Check List (DACL) Form E and 14 depression-related measures. Correlations are presented and discussed.(Editor)
Descriptors: Clinical Psychology, Correlation, Depression (Psychology), Measurement Instruments
Peer reviewedKnapp, Thomas R. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1977
The test-retest reliability of one single dichotomous item is discussed. Various indices are derived for summarizing the stability of a dichotomy, based on the concept of Platonic true scores. Both open-ended and multiple choice items are considered. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Correlation, Elementary Education, Item Analysis, Response Style (Tests)
Peer reviewedMartin, John D.; Kidwell, Jane C. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised, the Slosson Intelligence Test, and the National Education Development Test were administered to a small sample of private school children ranging in age from 12.3 to 14.1 years. Correlations among these measures were moderate to high. (JKS)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Correlation, Elementary Secondary Education, Intelligence Tests
Peer reviewedPowell, Evan R. – Small Group Behavior, 1977
This study uses two methods of analysis to examine the degree to which items within the cells of the Hill Interaction Matrix correlate. It is found that the table of specifications does not hold up. But the author recommends caution in interpreting this finding. (Author/BP)
Descriptors: Classification, Conceptual Schemes, Correlation, Evaluation Criteria
Peer reviewedGayton, William F.; And Others – Journal of Personality Assessment, 1977
The agreement between the Bem Sex Role Inventory and Jackson's Personality Research Form ANDRO Scale in designating sex role--masculine, feminine, neutral, or androgynous--was examined for 158 male and female undergraduate students. When both sexes were combined, 42 percent of the subjects fell into the same category on both tests. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Androgyny, Correlation, Females, Higher Education
Peer reviewedMeldman, Monte Jay; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1978
Melges et al. (1971) presented evidence that a client's sense of self-worth is highly correlated with his degree of optimism about his personal future. Here the cross-lagged panel correlation (CLPC) technique was used to test their hypothesis that changes in personal future outlook lead to changes in self-esteem. (Editor/RK)
Descriptors: Correlation, Factor Analysis, Illustrations, Measurement Instruments
Peer reviewedGeisler, Charles C. – Rural Sociology, 1977
A study of 1,423 respondents in northwest Wisconsin shows that age, education, and place of residence appear to account for the variation in environmental concern, with no significant remaining effect accounted for by any of the types of recreation considered by Dunlap and Heffernan in their 1975 study. (Author/JC)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Age Differences, Classification, Conservation (Environment)
Peer reviewedKear-Colwell, J. J. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1977
The Wechsler Memory Scale was administered to 112 patients who had been referred to a clinical psychologist for investigation of cognitive functioning with regard to possible or actual organic pathology of the brain. The aim was to replicate the factor structure of this test found in a previous study. (Editor)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Correlation, Factor Analysis, Measurement Instruments
Peer reviewedSchick, Jacquelin – Journal of the Association for the Study of Perception, 1977
This research attempts to determine whether or not a relationship exists between personality variables and frequency with which specific-colored targets are hit. Addresses the question of the relationship between color and personality and if it manifests itself in a reaction to color when a gross motor skill is performed. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Color, Correlation, Educational Research, Personality Assessment
Postman, Leo; Gray, Wayne – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
The method of transfer learning was manipulated in a study of proactive inhibition. Results suggest that the joint recall of two lists during transfer increases list differentiation and reduces competition between alternative sets of responses on the retention test. (Editor/RK)
Descriptors: Associative Learning, Correlation, Experimental Psychology, Inhibition
Peer reviewedCampbell, Anne – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1987
The correlation between family variables and delinquency in a small sample of British teenage girls is examined. Multiple regression of a four factor structure (caring and communication, discipline, pressure, and mother-daughter closeness) onto self-reported delinquency indicated that the maternal factor was the most powerful factor. (Author/JAZ)
Descriptors: Correlation, Daughters, Delinquency, Family Life
Peer reviewedIran-Nejad, Asghar – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1987
Two experiments investigated some of the cognitive and affective causes of interest and liking. Results did not support the hypothesis that degree of surprise per se causes interest. The hypothesis that interest and liking arise from different causes was supported. (Author/LMO)
Descriptors: Attitudes, Cognitive Processes, Correlation, Higher Education
Peer reviewedBlanchard-Fields, Fredda; And Others – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1986
