Vernon, Philip A. – Intelligence, 1986
Ruchalla, Schalt, and Vogel (1985) reported a negative correlation between the g-loadness of intelligence subtests and the extent to which the subtests correlated with reaction times. Possible methodological problems with Ruchalla et al. are described, and results of two other studies pertinent to the issue are discussed. (Author/LMO)

Bowden, Roger J. – Psychometrika, 1986
The author shows that correlation studies can be affected by self-selection bias when questionnaire response is poor, contrary to the common supposition that only loss of degrees of freedom or precision result. Tests are suggested for the ensuing self-selection bias. (Author/LMO)

Frisbie, David A.; Druva, Cynthia A. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1986
This study was designed to examine the level of dependence within multiple true-false test-item clusters by computing sets of item correlations with data from a test composed of both multiple true-false and multiple-choice items. (Author/LMO)

Thompson, Bruce; Borrello, Gloria M. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1985
Multiple regression analysis is frequently being employed in experimental and non-experimental research. However, when data include predictor variables that are correlated, some regression results can become difficult to interpret. This paper presents a study to provide a demonstration that structure coefficients may be useful in these cases.…

Midorikawa, Nobuyuki; And Others – Information Services and Use, 1984
Investigates interrelationships among five citation measures which indicate citation frequency and citation immediacy in scientific and technical journals (number of cited items, cited-citing ratio, impact factor, decay index, immediacy index) and impact of three factors on these measures (difference of fields, number of articles, number of citing…

Snyter, C. Michael; Graham, John R. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Investigated the utility of subtle items for the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory PD and MA scales and compared college students' (N=98) scores on these scales with scores on similar instruments. Results showed that obvious items are of greatest utility and contribute most to the prediction of criterion behaviors. (LLL)

Chew, Alex L.; Morris, John D. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The validity of the Lollipop Test: A Diagnostic Screening Test of School Readiness was examined using the Metropolitan Readiness Test (MRT), Level I, Form Q, as the criterion. Appreciable concurrent validity was found across test batteries. Implications for school readiness screening are discussed. (Author/BS)

Okamura-Bichard, Fumiko – Language Learning, 1985
Reports a study which examined the degree of mother tongue maintenance and development of Japanese children temporarily residing in the United States in relation to their learning of English. Also looked at factors which affected individuals' success or failure in the learning of both languages. (SED)

Geschwind, Norman – Annals of Dyslexia, 1983
The article notes correlations between lefthandedness and the incidence of immune disorders (such as ileitis, colitis, celiac disease, and Hashimoto's thyroiditis), with learning disorders and with early grey hair. Eventual control of the hormonal and immune environment (in addition to educational intervention) may prevent or minimize these…

Knapp-Lee, Lisa; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
This study evaluates the relationship of the Career Occupational Preference System, Interest Inventory, Form P (COPS-P) and the Theme and Basic Interest scales of the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory (SCII) to provide construct validity data. Computed scale correlations for a college student sample (n=122) support the theoretical constructs…

Vance, Booney; Bing, Sally – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Explored the relationship between a short form of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) and McCarthy Screening Test (MST) for a sample of northeastern Ohio children (N=42). Results showed that all the subtests except for Leg Coordination scores correlated significantly with the WISC-R Verbal scale. (LLL)

Jenkinson, Josephine C. – Intelligence, 1983
Speed of information processing was examined in relation to fluid and crystallized intelligence in sixth graders. Reaction time parameters (except slope) were negatively correlated with scores on intelligence tasks. Partial correlations failed to support any causal relationship between fluid and crystallized intelligence in either direction.…

Taffel, Suzanne Johnson; O'Leary, K. Daniel – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1976
Results showed support for the use of academic productivity, but gave only minimal support to choice as an effective reinforcer. There was evidence, however, that if choice served as a reinforcer it could do so best when activities made available to the child were of at least moderate interest. (Author/MV)

Richards, James M., Jr. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1976
Growth is estimated most accurately by procedures involving the pretest-posttest difference, and for practical purposes all estimates involving this difference have approximately equal accuracy. In particular, the simple difference between pretest and posttest scores seems about as accurate as any other estimate, easier to compute, and meaningful…
