Peer reviewedMusgrove, Walter J.; Musgrove, Glenn J. – Journal of Employment Counseling, 1979
This study attempts to determine the relationship between the subtests of the General Education Performance Index (GEPI) and the revised version of the General Educational Development Test (GED), and reports a technique whereby performance on the GEPI may be used to predict performance on the GED. (Author)
Descriptors: Adults, Correlation, High School Equivalency Programs, Multiple Regression Analysis
Peer reviewedTeachman, Jay D. – Sociological Methods and Research, 1980
Defining population diversity as the distribution along a continuum of homogeneity to heterogeneity with respect to one or more variables, measures are described with variance-based interpretations which can be applied to qualitative data. It is possible to use these statistics to define relationships in multivariate distributions. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Analysis of Variance, Classification, Correlation, Data Analysis
Peer reviewedEngram, Barbara E.; Vandergoot, David – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1978
Assessed correspondence between the Carkhuff and the Truax scales for empathy. Undergraduates responded to nine simulated client statements. An overall correlation of .89 was found. Interrater reliabilities for both scales were high. Degree of correspondence between scales varied with the content-affect characteristics of the simulated client…
Descriptors: Behavior Patterns, Correlation, Counseling, Empathy
Peer reviewedHolland, Terrill R. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1978
Drug abuse scores from prisoners resulted in two factors describing lifetime use of cannabis versus opiates. Analysis of Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) profiles versus drug abuse patterns indicated moderate, unidimensional relationship between variables. MMPI profiles of opiate users were similar to those identified in research…
Descriptors: Behavior Patterns, Behavior Rating Scales, Correlation, Drug Abuse
Peer reviewedQuisenberry, Nancy L.; Klasek, Charles B. – Illinois School Research and Development, 1981
Reports a study of 341 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders in which amount of television viewing time, gathered from one-month diaries, was examined in relationship to achievement as measured by standardized test scores. Findings were inconclusive. Data on TV viewing amounts and patterns are included. (SJL)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Behavior Patterns, Correlation, Intermediate Grades
Peer reviewedWheeler, Larry; Reilly, Thomas F. – Journal for Special Educators, 1980
The relationship between self-concept and academic achievement was examined with 30 educable mentally retarded adolescent residents of a state institution. Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Adolescents, Correlation, Institutionalized Persons
Peer reviewedBenninga, Jacques S. – Journal of Genetic Psychology, 1980
Two studies investigated the hypothesis that there is a positive relationship between self-concept and moral judgment in young children. Subjects were four- to eleven-year-old children. (CM)
Descriptors: Correlation, Elementary Education, Elementary School Students, Identification (Psychology)
Marshall, David D. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1980
An evaluation of the degree of overlapping variance between self-estimated and actual personality factor scores found only minimal overlap between estimates and inventory. Counselors are cautioned not to use personality estimates as substitutes for actual inventory scores. (Author)
Descriptors: Adjustment (to Environment), Correlation, Measures (Individuals), Personality Assessment
Peer reviewedMoldenhauer, Deborah L.; Miller, Wilma H. – Journal of Reading, 1980
Reports on a survey of 78 seventh-grade students, conducted to investigate the relationship between television viewing and reading achievement. Notes that good readers' viewing habits were not significantly different from those of poor readers. (JT)

Peer reviewedMartin, John D.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The Shipley-Institute of Living Scale (SILS) was used as a criterion to evaluate the Quick Word Test (QWT) and the Wide Range Vocabulary Test Form B (WRVT-B). Testing 50 college students, the correlations were .68 with QWT, .73 with WRVT-B, and .81 between those two tests. (CTM)
