Merritt, Sharon L.; Marshall, Jon Clark – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The Learning Style Inventory assesses learners' preferences. This study was designed to determine reliability and construct validity of Kolb's original ipsative instrument and an alternate normative form. The alternate version was found as reliable as the original, was equivalent in measuring characteristics, and demonstrated comparable construct…

Longenbecker, Sueann; Wood, Peter H. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
Scores from the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE) served as the criterion variable in a comparison of the predictive validity of the Dental Hygiene Aptitude Tests (DHAT) and the ACT Assessment tests. The DHAT-Science and Verbal tests combined to produce the highest multiple correlation with NBDHE scores. (Author/DWH)

Irwin, R. J. – Intelligence, 1984
Inspection times for both auditory and visual stimuli were correlated with verbal and nonverbal intelligence. Correlations were -.3188 and -.0929 for auditory and visual inspection times with verbal intelligence, and -.2322 and -.2676 with nonverbal intelligence. Results do not support claims that inspection time is closely related to…

Pao, Miranda Lee – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1986
Findings of empirical examination of author productivity data to determine conformity to Lotka's law indicate that: most data didn't fit inverse square function; two constants in Lotka's formulation (slope n, constant c) must be derived from observed distribution; inverse square law was special case of inverse exponential relationship. (37…

Brooks, Terrence A. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1986
Group of 20 scholars attributed 29.3 percent of 437 references they had cited to one of seven motives, while describing motives for majority (70.7 percent) of references as combinations. Clustering of citer motives showed three groupings: (1) persuasiveness, positive credit, currency, social consensus; (2) negative credit; (3) reader alert,…

Andersen, Erling B. – Psychometrika, 1985
A model for longitudinal latent structure analysis was proposed that combined the values of a latent variable at two time points in a two-dimensional latent density. The correlation coefficient between the two values of the latent variable can then be estimated. (NSF)

Redmore, Carolyn D. – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1983
This article describes a follow-up and secondary analysis of ego development of two samples originally tested early in their college years and retested to constitute a longitudinal study. Resultant data are consistent with the hypothesis that ego growth occurs according to a fixed sequence of stages and suggest that rate of growth decreases with…

McCain, Katherine W. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1984
Author cocitation analysis was used to investigate changes in intellectual structure of macroeconomics over two consecutive time periods, 1972-1977 and 1978-1983. Profile analysis, nonmetric multidimensional scaling, and clustering techniques were used to create two-dimensional maps displaying changing relationships among 41 authors as perceived…

Huberty, Carl J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1983
The basic notion of variability is generalized from a univariate context to a multivariate context using two matrix functions, a determinant, and a trace, yielding a number of alternative multivariate indices of shared variation. Some problems in the interpretation of tests of multivariate hypotheses are reviewed. (Author/BW)

Akemann, Charles A.; And Others – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1983
Generally, this paper aims to: (1) provide clarification, quantification, and some mathematical analysis to the statistical problem of restricted range in a college admissions situation; and (2) discuss various questions related to the problem of selection strategies. (Author/PN)

Murphy, J. Patrick; And Others – Journal of Creative Behavior, 1976
Are creative people highly self-actualized? Are self-actualized people highly creative? This research project attempts to understand and define these two concepts more clearly, and to answer the above questions. (Author/RK)

Rice, David G.; And Others – Journal of Personality Assessment, 1976
Holtzman Inkblot Technique (HIT) responses of 36 same sex and 29 opposite sex college student twin pairs are analyzed. The results are discussed in terms of comparable genetic determination studies with Rorschach responses and the necessity for separate male and female norms on several HIT score response scales. Granzin, Kent L.; Painter, John J. – Improving College and University Teaching, 1976
In a study of 637 students enrolled in 17 classes, cognitive dissonance was shown to be an applicable but weak conceptual framework for understanding course evaluations. Results of this study are similar to those of an earlier investigation by Canter and Meisels. (LBH)
