White, Howard D. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, 2003
Discussion of author cocitation analysis focuses on Pathfinder Networks (PFNET) where nodes represent authors and links represent weighted paths between nodes, the weights being cocitation counts. Highlights include remapping information science; comparison with principal components analysis; a correlation-based PFNET; and AuthorLink, a Web-based…

Ogden, Terje – Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 2003
Examined the validity of teacher ratings of adolescents' social skills in a followup of a cohort sample of 395 students from seventh to ninth grades. Findings show multi-informant consistency in ratings; teacher ratings consistently covaried with teacher ratings of problem behavior and academic competence, nominations by peer students, and grade…

Sale, Elizabeth; Sambrano, Soledad; Springer, J. Fred; Turner, Charles W. – Journal of Drug Education, 2003
Reports findings from a national longitudinal cross-site evaluation of high-risk youth to clarify the relationships between risk and protective factors and substance use. Findings suggest that multi-dimensional prevention programming stressing the fostering of conventional anti-substance use attitudes among parents and peers and development of…

Marton, Christine; Choo, Chun Wei – Proceedings of the ASIST Annual Meeting, 2002
Presents preliminary results from a survey of how women in information technology professions use information sources. Investigates the effects of perceived source accessibility and perceived source quality on the selection and use of information sources. Discusses results of correlation analysis and regression analysis that also examined…

Farrar, Michael Jeffrey – Journal of Child Language, 1990
Examines the relationship between adult recasts of child utterances and the child's acquisition of syntactic structures. Results indicate that maternal recasts of specific morphemes were related to the acquisition of those specific morphemes during certain developmental periods, whereas other grammatical morphemes were facilitated by expansions…

Arthur, Winfred, Jr.; Hart, Darren – Journal of Research on Computing in Education, 1990
Discussion of computer usage and familiarity focuses on an empirical study of college students that investigated the relationship between computer familiarity and cognitive ability. Results are reported that indicate a positive correlation between high scores on cognitive ability tests and computer usage, but no gender differences are reported.…

Herman, William E. – Journal of Research and Development in Education, 1990
Undergraduate students (N=215) were surveyed in a study that explored the relationships between trait test anxiety (fear of failure) and state test anxiety (emotionality and worry). The study also examined the relative strengths of trait and state measures of test anxiety as predictors of college academic performance. (IAH)

Schubo, Werner – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1990
The mean and variance of the statistic psi-star, which is useful for measuring agreement between two raters and allows for tests of significance in the case of large samples, are considered. Results may also be applied for the "G" index of J. W. Holley and J. P. Guilford (1964). (SLD)

Anderson, Deborah S.; Kristiansen, Connie M. – Journal of Social Psychology, 1990
Discusses the Attitude Functions Inventory (AFI), which assesses the extent to which a person's attitude fulfills each of four psychological functions. Reports findings of a study, involving 249 undergraduates, that tested the construct validity of the AFI. Suggests that the AFI provides conceptually meaningful measures of the functions of…

Toth, Linda S.; Baker, Sheldon R. – Journal of Creative Behavior, 1990
A literature review both affirms and denies a relationship between creativity and public school achievement. A study involving 116 students from grades 6, 8, and 10 found that high levels of creative ability may contribute to a pattern of underachievement by interfering with convergent thinking within the time constraints of a regular classroom…

McQuarrie, Edward F. – Computers in Human Behavior, 1989
Offers a framework for conceptualizing the events that follow adoption of innovation. Surveys of home users of microcomputers are described that examined three outcomes of adoption: (1) degree of usage; (2) satisfaction; and (3) attitude toward the technology. Variations in the outcomes are examined, and further research needs are suggested. (46…

Lautenschlager, Gary J.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1989
A method for estimating the first eigenvalue of random data correlation matrices is reported, and its precision is demonstrated via comparison to the method of S. J. Allen and R. Hubbard (1986). Data generated in Monte Carlo simulations with 10 sample sizes reaching up to 1,000 were used. (SLD)

Uzoma, Catherine U.; Feldman, Robert H. L. – Health Education (Washington D.C.), 1989
Results from a study of 100 innercity adult Black diabetics indicate that perceived self-efficacy and age were strong predictors of adherence to an insulin regime. Additional psychosocial factors examined include perceived barriers to treatment, perceived severity of illness, and perceived social support. Results indicated gender differences. (IAH)

Joe, George W.; Mendoza, Jorge L. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1989
The internal correlation--a measure of dependency in a set of variables--is discussed and generalized. Applications of the internal correlation coefficient and its generalizations are given for several data-analytic situations. The internal correlation is illustrated and the concept is expanded to a series of additional indices. (TJH)

Rozeboom, William W. – Journal of Educational Statistics, 1989
Use of internal correlation for statistical analysis--proposed by G. W. Joe and J. L. Mendoza (1989)--is discussed. Focus is on the "content" question (what this application can do with the information that statistics contain) and the "eloquence" question (the advantages of this means of encoding information over other means). (TJH)
