Peer reviewedFleenor, John W.; Taylor, Sylvester – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1994
Relations were examined among the CPI Creativity Scale (CPI-CT), the MBTI Creativity Index (MBTI-CI), and the Kirton Adaption-Innovation Inventory (KAI; a style measure of behavioral preference) for samples of 431 to 12,115 managers. KAI scores were related to CPI-CT and MBTI-CI creativity levels. (SLD)
Descriptors: Administrators, Construct Validity, Correlation, Creativity
Peer reviewedTen Berge, Jos M. F.; And Others – Psychometrika, 1994
The suggestion that the IDIOSCAL model be fitted by the TUCKALS2 algorithm for three-way components analysis is examined. The claim that resulting coordinate matrices will be identical is supported when the data matrices are semidefinite. Counterexamples for indefinite matrices are also constructed. (SLD)
Descriptors: Algorithms, Correlation, Equations (Mathematics), Goodness of Fit
Peer reviewedDeMarie-Dreblow, Darlene – Child Development, 1991
Reported two studies of the possible relation of knowledge to improvements in recall. Tested 8- to 11-year-old children and college students for knowledge recall before and after they saw videotapes about birds. Although knowledge and memory measures correlated, and most knowledge measures improved after children viewed the videotapes, recall and…

Peer reviewedVooijs, Marcel W.; Van der Kamp, Leo J. T. – Evaluation Review, 1991
A two-step procedure is developed for the analysis of pretest-posttest data. Nonlinear canonical correlation analysis is followed by covariance analysis of optimally scaled pretest and posttest measures. The procedure is available in the computer program CANALS. Advantages of the two-step procedure are discussed. (SLD)
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Comparative Analysis, Computer Software, Correlation
Peer reviewedHolland, John L. – Journal of Career Development, 1991
Holland gives a personal account of how the preceding article was initiated and executed. Origins of the research project, the process of statistical analysis, preparation of the final article, and advice for beginning researchers are included. (SK)
Descriptors: Career Choice, Correlation, Educational Theories, Matrices
Peer reviewedThompson, Bruce – Journal of Experimental Education, 1991
Monte Carlo methods were used to evaluate the degree to which canonical function and structure coefficients may be differentially sensitive to sampling error. For each of 64 research situations, 1,000 random samples were drawn. Both sets of coefficients were roughly equally influenced; some exceptions are noted. (SLD)

Peer reviewedVernon, Philip A.; Mori, Monica – Intelligence, 1992
In 2 studies with 85 and 88 undergraduates, respectively, peripheral nerve conduction velocity (NCV) was significantly correlated with IQ score and reaction times, and NCV and reaction time contributed significantly, in combination, to prediction of IQ. Results are interpreted in terms of a neural efficiency model of intelligence. (Author/SLD)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Correlation, Higher Education, Intelligence
Peer reviewedGilpin, Andrew R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1993
Kendall's Tau is often considered equivalent to Spearman's Rho as an ordinal measure of correlation in spite of its different metric. Formulas for converting Tau to Rho are reviewed; and a table of corresponding values is presented for Tau, Rho, and several related indices. (SLD)
Descriptors: Correlation, Effect Size, Equations (Mathematics), Estimation (Mathematics)
Peer reviewedKim, Min-Sun; Hunter, John E. – Communication Research, 1993
Examines whether behavioral intentions (BI) mediate between attitudes (A) and behaviors (B). Finds A-BI correlation higher than A-B correlation, BI-B correlation higher than A-B correlation, A-BI correlation higher than BI-B correlation, variation in BI-B correlations greater than A-BI, and attitudinal relevance affected the magnitude of A-BI…

Peer reviewedJenkins, Joseph R.; Jewell, Mark – Exceptional Children, 1993
This study of 335 students in grades 2-6 found that correlations between oral reading fluency and 2 reading achievement tests declined as grade level increased. Coefficients between performance on maze tasks and achievement tests did not show a similar decline from lower to upper grade levels. (Author/JDD)
Descriptors: Achievement Tests, Age Differences, Correlation, Elementary Education
Peer reviewedSmith, Philip L.; Luecht, Richard M. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1992
The implications of serially correlated effects on the results of generalizability analyses are discussed. Simulated data are provided that demonstrate the biases that serially correlated effects introduce into the results. Serial correlation in measurement effects can have a marked influence on the impression of the dependability of measurement…
Descriptors: Computer Simulation, Correlation, Equations (Mathematics), Estimation (Mathematics)
Peer reviewedZimmerman, Donald W.; Zumbo, Bruno D. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1992
A modified "F" test is derived that includes a correction for nonindependence of between-groups and within-groups sample values in analysis of variance (ANOVA) designs. Computer simulations based on normal and nonnormal distributions illustrate the usefulness of the approach, which was more powerful than conventional within-subjects…

Mariani, Emilio; And Others – American Journal on Mental Retardation, 1993
The prevalence of epilepsy was correlated with the severity and type of encephalopathy of 1,023 individuals with mental retardation. A total of 326 individuals were diagnosed with epilepsy. Results indicated a low percentage of epilepsy in chromosomic-genetic and young adult encephalopathies and a high prevalence when the neurodeficit was…

Peer reviewedWindle, Michael; Miller-Tutzauer, Carol – Journal of Drug Education, 1991
Performed secondary analysis of data from National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, involving 12,686 subjects, to examine patterns of alcohol and cocaine abuse. Found joint alcohol and cocaine abusers demonstrated highest levels of previous 30-day and lifetime drug use, high levels of delinquent activity, and highest rates of unemployment and marital…
Descriptors: Alcohol Abuse, Behavior Patterns, Cocaine, Correlation
Peer reviewedThompson, Paul – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1990
Presents results of simulations that were conducted to test the effects of errors in estimation of individual term probabilities on the performance of a probabilistic information retrieval (PIR) system. Assigning index terms to documents is described; an information retrieval system called Helpnet is explained; and relevance, ranking, and…
