Peer reviewedVernon, Philip A.; And Others – Intelligence, 1985
Eighty-one university students were given a battery of reaction time tests and a group test of intelligence which yielded timed and untimed scores. Multiple regression analyses indicated that speed of information-processing was an equally good predictor of timed and untimed intelligence test performance. (Author/LMO)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Conceptual Tempo, Correlation, Higher Education
Peer reviewedHamilton, Scott B.; And Others – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1986
In order to assess the relationship between family members' cognitive and affective responses to nuclear war issues, 317 college students and their parents independently completed a multifaceted questionnaire that included items concerning personal reactions, predictions, opinions, and attitudes about nuclear war. (Author/LMO)
Descriptors: Attitude Measures, College Students, Correlation, Higher Education
Peer reviewedBorrello, Gloria M.; Thompson, Bruce – Journal of Experimental Education, 1985
The study investigated personality and aptitude correlates of test-wiseness skills, which were measured by assessing the subject's ability to utilize deductive reasoning and item cues. Personality factors and aptitude were measured. Results indicated that cognitive variables have more power to predict test-wiseness scores than do personality…

Peer reviewedSimpson, Robert G.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1984
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between auditory discrimination, as measured by the Wepman Auditory Discrimination Test, and reading achievement, as measured by the Woodcock Reading Mastery Tests. After controlling for intelligence, there was little more than a random relationship between auditory discrimination and…

Peer reviewedFagan, Joseph F. – Intelligence, 1984
Individual differences in visual recognition memory and intelligence were correlated using 52 five-year-olds whose IQs ranged from 40-136. The correlation between memory performance and IQ was .70 for whole sample, and .61 when children with IQs below 75 were omitted. Immediate recognition memory is highly associated with intelligence. (Author/RD)

Peer reviewedLunenburg, Frederick C. – Educational Research Quarterly, 1983
When elementary students' perceptions of the pupil control orientation of the school were compared with aspects of self-concept as a learner, all subtests of the Self-Concept as a Learner Scale were significantly correlated with the school's pupil control orientation. The sample comprised teachers and students in 35 midwestern elementary schools.…
Descriptors: Correlation, Elementary Education, Locus of Control, Research Methodology
Peer reviewedJohnson, Berman E. – Community College Review, 1984
Describes a study conducted at DeKalb Community College to compare placement levels established by the college's in-house Reading, English and Mathematics (REM) Test with Scholastic Aptitude Test scores. Discusses REM placement levels and their course alignments, internal challenges to the placement levels, and correlation study findings. (DMM)
Descriptors: Admission Criteria, Community Colleges, Correlation, Educational Diagnosis
Peer reviewedJohnson, John R. – Communication Education, 1984
Examines the role inner speech (as defined by Vygotsky and Sokolov) plays in the thought-word process in order to understand how and why communication skills are interrelated. Presents three intrapersonal/extrapersonal speech models and outlines four procedural rules necessary for effective communication. (PD)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Communication (Thought Transfer), Communication Skills, Correlation
Peer reviewedThayer, Dorothy T. – Psychometrika, 1983
Estimation techniques for generating the covariance matrix for two new tests and an existing test without the necessity of any examinee having to take two complete tests is presented. An application of these techniques to linear, observed-score, test equating is presented. (Author/JKS)
Descriptors: Correlation, Equated Scores, Estimation (Mathematics), Matrices
Peer reviewedSteinkamp, Marjorie W.; Machr, Martin L. – Review of Educational Research, 1983
A quantitative synthesis of the results from 66 studies indicated that boys' and girls' science achievement is positively related to affect, but the relationship is weaker than expected. Science achievement correlates more strongly with cognitive abilities than with affect. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Academic Ability, Academic Achievement, Correlation, Elementary Secondary Education
Peer reviewedLerner, Richard M.; Knapp, John R. – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1976
The study used three response-latitude format methods of Lerner et al. (1974) along with the item and forced-choice procedures of Lerner and Knapp (1976) to adequately ascertain the method independence of racial attitude assessment, and to ascertain appropriate inferences to be made about the structure of such attitudes in White adolescents. (RC)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Attitude Measures, Comparative Analysis, Correlation
Peer reviewedManners, George E., Jr.; Steger, Joseph A. – Personnel Psychology, 1975
Article investigated the stability of both the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule (EPPS) (Edwards, 1959) and the Guilford-Zimmerman Temperment Survey (GZTS) (Guilford and Zimmerman, 1949) by presenting new data on the intercorrelations of the scales in these tests. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Correlation, Data Analysis, Measurement Instruments, Personnel Selection
Walker, David A. – Association for Institutional Research (NJ1), 2004
This article looked at non-experimental data via an ordinary least squares (OLS) model and compared its results to ridge regression models in terms of cross-validation predictor weighting precision when using fixed and random predictor cases and small and large p/n ratio models. A majority of the time with two random predictor cases, ridge…
Descriptors: Regression (Statistics), Prediction, Least Squares Statistics, Computation
Muijs, Daniel – SAGE Publications, 2004
This book looks at quantitative research methods in education. The book is structured to start with chapters on conceptual issues and designing quantitative research studies before going on to data analysis. While each chapter can be studied separately, a better understanding will be reached by reading the book sequentially. This book is intended…

Uptegrove, Elizabeth B.; Maher, Carolyn A. – International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education, 2004
This paper reports on five students' explorations of structural relationships between problem situations that they worked on over several years as participants in a long-term study. In particular, we describe the case of students who recognized isomorphisms between and among two problem situations and who used particular features of the problems…
