Peer reviewedFrary, Robert B. – Educational Measurement: Issues and Practice, 1988
Formula scoring is designed to reduce multiple-choice test score irregularities due to guessing. It is inappropriate for most classroom testing, but may be desirable for speeded tests and difficult tests with low passing scores. An annotated bibliography and a Self-Test are provided. (SLD)
Descriptors: Multiple Choice Tests, Scoring, Testing Problems
Peer reviewedJohnston, Cris W.; Lanak, Brenda – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1985
The Bender Gestalt Test was administered to 25 children (7-10 years old) referred for neuropsychological assessment and scored using the Koppitz system and the Watkins system. Although the scores obtained using the two different sets of criteria were highly correlated, the Watkins rules produced generally better performance. (Author/CL)

Peer reviewedEvans, Ronald G. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
Rescored Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (Revised) protocols from 81 normal adults using the Satz Mogel short form procedure. Low correlations between the short forms and full protocols suggest the Satz Mogel procedure can serve only as a gross screening test with normal adults. (JAC)

Hanna, Gerald S. – Meas Evaluation Guidance, 1970
The validity concomitants of four sets of directions regarding guessing were investigated. The most valid procedures were testing with directions indicating or implying use of a scoring formula and scoring by means of conventional or multiple regression formulas. (Author)

Simon, William E. – J Educ Meas, 1969
Reading level expectancies exerted "a powerful influence upon the scoring process. (Author/AP)

Peer reviewedWilcox, Rand R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1981
This paper describes and compares procedures for estimating the reliability of proficiency tests that are scored with latent structure models. Results suggest that the predictive estimate is the most accurate of the procedures. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Criterion Referenced Tests, Scoring, Test Reliability
Peer reviewedSattler, Jerome M.; Squire, Lisa S. – School Psychology Review, 1982
Considerable judgment is required in scoring some McCarthy subtests, as this research showed the results of the Draw-A-Design test to be disagreeably scored. Oral Vocabulary and Draw-A-Child tests offered few scoring discrepancies between examiners. Two different studies and protocols are discussed. (CE)

Peer reviewedYung, Yiu-Fai – Psychometrika, 1997
Various types of finite mixtures of confirmatory factor analysis models are proposed for handling data heterogeneity. Proposed classes of mixture models differ in their unique representations of data heterogeneity, and three sampling schemes for these mixtures are distinguished. Advantages of the Approximate Scoring method are outlined. (SLD)
