The relation between self-esteem and delinquency among high school youth was studied by cross-lagged panel correlations, which indicated that low self-esteem tended to cause delinquency, particularly among lower socioeconomic status youth. Two samples of verbally gifted adolescents were tested using cognitive and personality measures. Although both groups were found to be unusually mature and well adjusted, they varied considerably in sociopolitical intelligence--the ability to formulate viable solutions to moral, social, and political problems. Relationships between straight-copy typing and shorthand transcription and between production typing and shorthand transcription were studied using data gathered from seventy-three shorthand students. Results of the correlation analyses showed few significant relationships, indicating that transcription skills are unique. (MF)

Use of some monotonic function of this correlation as a measure of equating efficiency is suggested.
