Although typical, traditional language lesson content has been imaginary characters and information, content based on the real world has been rare. Some possible content types to develop are another academic subject, the culture where the language is spoken, and interesting facts about the world in general. (MSE)

Twenty-eight research centers devoted to the study of women have made a significant contribution to the drive to gain recognition for and acceptance of women's studies as a legitimate area of academic work. Some of the research centers are described, and a directory of them is provided. (MLW)

The ethics involved in a man's teaching of women's studies and the value of involving males in women's studies are discussed. A continued absence of male students in women's studies classes, it is suggested, will undermine the effort of women's studies teachers to secure a place in the academic world. (MLW)

A research project on the variability of tutor grading of student assignments at the Open University in Great Britain is reported. Factors in the variation that became apparent through discussion, questionnaires, and examination of papers are explained and areas for research are suggested. (MSE)

Discusses the status of speech communication as an academic discipline in light of Heckhausen's seven disciplinary criteria and in terms of three areas of growth and vitality characteristic of speech communication.
