This article offers teachers tips about how to get off to a good start when the new school year begins. Suggestions are given for setting up initial activities, making door signs that help students practice reading, starting group stories, scheduling time, and getting to know students. (PP)

A survey to identify factors contributing to the low enrollment and subsequent cancellation of a continuing education program is described. The major element contributing to the low enrollment appeared to be the time of the year the program was scheduled. Consequences of program cancellation are discussed. (Author/MLW)

Direct mail surveys can be an effective method of surveying alumni, but a good survey takes careful planning, scheduling, execution, and follow-up. A six-month timetable is recommended, with three mailings and attention to a variety of details, such as the quality of the survey package and the recording of responses. (MSE)
