Peer reviewedSimon, H. J.; And Others – American Journal of Physics, 1975
Describes an experiment in which a 500-A-thick silver film is evaporated on the hypotenuse face of a right glass prism. The surface plasmon mode in the film is excited with a He-Ne laser. The dispersion relation for the surface plasmon and the reflectivity due to the excitation of this mode are calculated. (Author/MLH)

Peer reviewedEaton, T. W.; Smith, R. – Physics Education, 1974
Descriptors: Atomic Structure, Atomic Theory, Chemistry, College Science
Peer reviewedWray, E. M. – Physics Education, 1975
Stefan's law is demonstrated by measuring the temperature of the tungsten filament of an electric light bulb and plotting a log-log graph of temperature against power dissipation. (MLH)
Descriptors: College Science, Experiments, Higher Education, Laboratory Experiments
Wilson, J. A. – Technical Education News, 1975
Descriptors: College Science, Educational Innovation, Educational Programs, Electronics
Peer reviewedAllen, Fritz S.; And Others – Journal of Chemical Education, 1975
Describes an experiment that enables the student to concentrate on the fundamentals of the non-ideal liquid-vapor equilibrium. Presents typical student data and suggests features which might be added to the experiment. (GS)
Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education, Instructional Materials
Peer reviewedFriesen, R. J., Ed. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1975
Describes a simple tensiometer which provides good approximations to Young's Modulus and acceptable tensile test curves. (Author/GS)
Descriptors: Chemical Bonding, Chemistry, Laboratory Experiments, Physics
Peer reviewedLight, Truman S.; Cappuccino, Carleton C. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1975
Outlines the theory of chemical potentiometry, describes the experimental procedure for free fluoride determination, and presents sample data of fluoride concentration for various brands of toothpaste. (GS)
Descriptors: Chemical Analysis, Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education
Peer reviewedJames, B. D. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1975
Descriptors: Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education
Peer reviewedKranbuehl, D. E.; And Others – Journal of Chemical Education, 1975
Descriptors: Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education, Laboratory Experiments
Peer reviewedSmith, Robert D. – Physics Teacher, 1975
Describes a method of time-of-flight determination utilizing a sound-actuated switch, an electronic flash, and a loaded camera. (GS)
Descriptors: Laboratory Experiments, Motion, Photographic Equipment, Physics
Peer reviewedMogill, A. T. – Physics Teacher, 1975
Describes a calibration technique for a small motor which, when driven as a generator, can be used for a speedometer. The generator output can be fed to an oscilloscope to provide a sweep in which the vertical axis is velocity and the horizontal axis, time. (GS)
Descriptors: Laboratory Experiments, Motion, Physics, Science Activities
Peer reviewedZollman, Dean – Physics Teacher, 1975
Explains a method of exploiting recent interest in automobile safety to demonstrate, qualitatively, concepts of momentum and energy. (GS)
Descriptors: Energy, Force, Laboratory Experiments, Mechanics (Physics)
Peer reviewedCampbell, J. A. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1975
Describes a series of experiments which provide excellent evidence for different degrees of dissociation of a series of complexes and precipitate. The series is based on the copper ion as the acid and sample data are provided. (GS)
Descriptors: Chemical Reactions, Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education
