The TSS (Topological Screens System) for substructure search was applied to the CAS Registry file making it searchable on-line. The TSS screens and the use of the screen indexes are described. The procedures used to produce the index to volume 20 (1969) of American Documentation are described to demonstrate a system for computer-assisted indexing and bibliographic production developed at the Columbia University School of Library Science.
