The first annual Olive Branch Awards, sponsored by the Writers' and Publishers Alliance and the Editors' Organizing Committee, were given to ten magazines, out of 60 that submitted entries. Winning entries are described briefly. (IM)

Despite growing numbers of psychologists and of research reports presented at APA conventions and in core psychology journals, relatively few changes have occurred in the type of information presented. A study of citations in instructional development (ID) periodical literature identifies invisible colleges--groups linked by common ideas or approaches--in the ID field. Although ID literature as a whole was weakly based on previous work, this study found eight invisible colleges and 10 authors who dominate the literature. (MBR)

Finds that the percentage of favorable, neutral, and unfavorable statements about the three Kennedy brothers in two national news magazines was similar and that both magazines published proportionately more favorable statements about John Kennedy than about either of his brothers. (FL)

Examines the use of puffery in magazine ads for automobiles between 1930 and 1980 to see if advertisers varied the amount of puffery used in relation to increased pressures from government regulation. Finds puffery declined as regulatory pressures increased. (FL)

This study attempted to determine the impact of environmental values on two periodicals: Audubon and the Sierra Club Bulletin. The two periodicals were analyzed for the period 1969-1974. Many conclusions are presented including that the Audubon Society may be undergoing an organizational change by becoming more politically oriented. (BT)
