Manekina, N. M. – Soviet Education, 1976
To acquaint students with principal taxonomic terms, local plants from natural surroundings of the school that exhibit attributes of each group are used in the steppe region of the Soviet Union. (Author/ND)
Descriptors: Biology, Classification, Comparative Education, Elementary Education
Peer reviewedMayer, Gerald L. – Russian Language Journal, 1976
A new morphological categorization of cardinal numbers in Russian is presented, based solely on synchronic morphological features. (RM)
Descriptors: Descriptive Linguistics, Grammar, Language Classification, Linguistic Theory
Wager, Walter – Journal of Instructional Development, 1978
Operationalizes the theoretical foundation of Gagne's model as a component in the instructional design process. The description of design techniques includes a sample media analysis, and a sample sequence worksheet. (JEG)
Descriptors: Classification, Guides, Instructional Design, Instructional Materials
Massaro, Dominic W.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1978
To what extent does prior knowledge of a superordinate category facilitate recognition of an instance of that category? The results of this study reveal that the facilitating effect of a category prime on perceptual processing is inversely related to the quality of the stimulus information available. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Classification, Experimental Psychology, Illustrations, Memory
Hippchen, Leonard J. – Offender Rehabilitation, 1978
The author maintains that correctional workers are at a critical juncture in the use of classification strategies. Numerous guidelines are available for classification, but too often these are not applied. Several suggestions are made for effective classifications. (Author/HMV)
Descriptors: Classification, Correctional Institutions, Guidelines, Institutionalized Persons
Peer reviewedBjorklund, David F. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1978
A negative transfer paradigm was used to assess kindergarten, third-, and sixth-grade children's use of category relations in lists presented for recall. Results showed that negative transfer effects increased with age, with kindergarten children showing no evidence of interference relative to a control group. (Author/MP)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Classification, Cognitive Processes, Elementary School Students
Peer reviewedPeltier, Euclid – Library Trends, 1978
An historical discussion of three types of film--teaching, information, and entertainment--is presented. The numbers of films in each category, especially the last, which includes the animated, unnarrated, iconographic, underground, and avant-garde, has grown substantially. Peer reviewedKar, Gautam; White, Lee J. – Information Processing and Management, 1978
Investigates the feasibility of using a distance measure for automatic sequential document classification. This property of the distance measure is used to design a sequential classification algorithm which classifies key words and analyzes them separately in order to assign primary and secondary classes to a document. (VT)
Descriptors: Algorithms, Automatic Indexing, Classification, Information Processing
Peer reviewedMcGarrigle, James; And Others – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1978
Six experiments were reported which examine the young child's ability to compare included and nonincluded sets. Subjects were children from nursery and primary schools in Edinburgh. (Author/MP)

Peer reviewedSummit, Roland; Kryso, JoAnn – American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, 1978
The paper suggests that incest has been underestimated as a significant determinant of emotional disturbance, and that misuse of sexuality between parents and children can have detrimental consequences that parallel those resulting from other forms of child abuse. (Author)

Peer reviewedStorm, Christine – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1978
Examines the effectiveness of training children from grades 3 through 7 to organize information to be recalled into predetermined class inclusion hierarchies. Examines the effect of this training on performance on a transfer task requiring subjective organization. (BD)
