Haase, Richard F.; Juster, Harlan R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1986
Structural equation models require formidable computational techniques. Testing the goodness of fit involves discrepancies between original correlations among variables and correlations estimated by solved path coefficients. A BASIC computer program which solves these problems is presented and discussed. (Author/GDC)

Janke, Robert W.; Pilkey, Peter J. – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1985
Found that there was significantly improved achievement of students whose teachers received diagnostic error information from a microcomputer program compared to teachers who did not receive such information. Explanations for the improved achievement and implications for mathematics instruction are addressed. (JN)
Descriptors: Computation, Computer Software, Diagnostic Teaching, Mathematics Achievement
Perry, Leslie – Career Training, 1986
Nine steps are reviewed in the decision to buy computers and software for schools: define your needs, compile detailed requirements listing, develop a request for proposal, identify vendors, submit request for proposal to various vendors, compare results, identify several possible systems, set up live demonstrations of software and hardware,…

Fredenburg, Phillip B. – School Business Affairs, 1984
To obtain software suitable for school personnel systems, school business officials should consider forming cooperative groups to develop software and should also encourage entrepreneurs to custom-design products. (MLF)

Kant, Elaine; Newell, Allen – Information Processing and Management, 1984
Presents model of algorithm design (activity in software development) based on analysis of protocols of two subjects designing three convex hull algorithms. Automation methods, methods for studying algorithm design, role of discovery in problem solving, and comparison of different designs of case study according to model are highlighted.…

Sanders, Mark – InCider, 1985
Discusses hardware and software requirements for interactive video. Also illustrates how interactive video can be used to individualize instruction by describing a program which introduces students to the principles and operation of the offset press. A list of companies distributing interactive video hardware/software is included. (JN)

Adams, Richard C. – Instructor, 1985
Proper software can turn a classroom computer into a teacher's productivity tool. Word processors, electronic spreadsheets, and filing and graphing programs make classroom and administrative duties less time consuming. (DF)
Descriptors: Computer Managed Instruction, Computer Oriented Programs, Computer Software, Microcomputers
Zakariya, Sally Banks – Executive Educator, 1985
School computer networks range in size from a single-classroom link to a statewide arrangement. Experiences, advantages, and problems encountered in implementing a local area network are discussed. (MLF)

Demas, Samuel – Special Libraries, 1985
Presents overview of special considerations in developing microcomputer software collections, review of standardized cataloging practices, and discussion of problems of selection and acquisition of software. Policies governing loan procedures for microcomputer software which involve four types of copy protection (patent, trade secret, contract,…

Watson, Keith R.; And Others – Chemical Engineering Education, 1985
The determination of closed-loop response of processes containing dead-time is typically not covered in undergraduate process control, possibly because the solution by Laplace transforms requires the use of Pade approximation for dead-time, which makes the procedure lengthy and tedious. A computer-aided method is described which simplifies the…

Rose, Susan; Waldron, Manjula – American Annals of the Deaf, 1984
Of the 342 surveyed programs, 82 percent responded, and 51 percent used microcomputers as an instructional tool. Results indicate a critical need for a software exchange among programs for hearing-impaired students, as well as in-service training and information-sharing programs. The survey information indicates the need for increased support for…

Electronic Education, 1984
Describes study to determine effect on Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores of coaching with a microcomputer software program, Computer SAT. Results indicate mathematics scores are improved by computer coaching with no difference between effectiveness of individual or small group computer use, and verbal scores are improved by small group use.…
