Examined whether Lawler's formulation for expectancy was a better predictor of the outcomes of an intervention designed to aid career choice than applications of the more global approaches. Reports research into the affective responses of 75 University of Iowa undergraduate students to situations varying in achievement outcome, task importance, and effort. Surveyed 619 college freshmen to determine how many considered themselves to have drinking problems. Results showed males and youngest children in the family had the most problems. Studied influences on counselors' capacity to make mature moral judgments. Counseling students (N=63) at various levels completed a General Information Questionnaire and the Defining Issues Test. Ability of five cognitive characteristics to predict students' (N=96) achievement of evolution and natural selection concepts was measured. Reexamined the NORC Happiness Scale based on a survey of 1400 urban and nonurban elderly. Results indicated a high proportion of urban elderly were bored, depressed, and lonely as well as proud, excited, and interested.
