Peer reviewedMook, Bertha – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1982
Studied the process of child psychotherapy by means of analyses of client verbal behaviors. Analyses of variables demonstrated the nature of each client's verbal responding as well as their pattern of change. Summarized the overall verbal response behavior of each client best through the factor analyses. (Author)
Descriptors: Behavior Change, Behavior Patterns, Children, Evaluation Methods
Peer reviewedDye, Carol J. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1982
Performed a factor analysis on the results of the Wechsler Memory Scale for 99 older males to determine how normally aging older adults perform. Results seem to indicate that the manner of functioning in later life becomes deficient in quality rather than in quantitative performance. (Author)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Aging (Individuals), Cognitive Processes, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedOlsson, Ulf – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1979
The paper discusses the consequences for maximum likelihood factor analysis which may follow if the observed variables are ordinal with only a few scale steps. Results indicate that classification may lead to a substantial lack of fit of the model--an erroneous indication that more factors are needed. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Classification, Factor Analysis, Goodness of Fit, Maximum Likelihood Statistics
Peer reviewedAberbach, Joel D. – American Behavioral Scientist, 1979
Discusses the increasing concern of Congress toward its function of oversight (congressional review of the actions of federal departments, agencies, and commissions, and of the programs and policies they administer). Notes factors which promote and increase the quality of oversight and analyzes trends in congressional committee oversight behavior.…
Descriptors: Behavioral Science Research, Factor Analysis, Government (Administrative Body), Government Role
Peer reviewedJoreskog, Karl G. – Psychometrika, 1978
A general approach to analysis of covariance structures is considered, in which the variances and covariances or correlations of the observed variables are directly expressed in terms of the parameters of interest. The statistical problems of identification, estimation and testing of such covariance or correlation structures are discussed.…
Descriptors: Analysis of Covariance, Correlation, Critical Path Method, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedPierce, Robert C. – Journal of Leisure Research, 1980
Participants in two studies were asked to rate the importance of favorite leisure activities in relation to their work. Six dimensions were found in both studies: (1) physical challenge; (2) mental challenge; (3) sensuality; (4) risk; (5) autonomy vs. sociability; and (6) stimulation. (JN)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Factor Analysis, Job Satisfaction, Leisure Time
Mossholder, Kevin W. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1981
Examined the relationships among interest and personality inventory responses of (N=275) scientific personnel. Operational replications were performed using two previous interest-personality studies as targets. Canonical correlation analyses indicated that interest-personality domains are related in a logically consistent manner. (RC)
Descriptors: Career Choice, Correlation, Factor Analysis, Interest Inventories
Peer reviewedRoberge, J. J.; Flexer, B. K. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1981
A principal factor analysis was performed on a matrix of correlations amoung measures of field independence, intelligence, and achievement in reading and mathematics. Factors of general intelligence and verbal ability were identified. Field independence shared a substantial amount of variance with general intellectual ability. (Author/SJL)
Descriptors: Cognitive Style, Correlation, Factor Analysis, Intelligence
Peer reviewedConstantine, John A.; Bahr, Stephen J. – Journal of Divorce, 1980
Investigated relationship between locus of control and marital stability of young men. Factors derived from locus of control measures included leadership, personal, and fate scales. Results indicated the only significant difference was on the leadership scale between men remaining married and those who did not. (RC)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Adults, Counseling Techniques, Divorce
Nestman, Chadwick H.; And Others – CAUSE/EFFECT, 1980
A study dealing with administrative computer centers in four-year institutions of higher education in the United States is described. Organizational impact on management of computers, descriptive findings about the institutions used in the study, factor analysis of dependent variables, and multiple regression analysis are reviewed. (MLW)
Descriptors: College Administration, Colleges, Computers, Data Processing
Cervero, Ronald M. – Adult Education, 1980
Researchers reanalyzed the original Adult Performance Level Test survey data for the test's validity and reliability, and they concluded that (1) the test is not content valid because it assumes that functional competence can be logically defined and adult success accurately measured; and (2) the test is a valid measure of verbal, writing, and…

Peer reviewedBooth, Alan; White, Lynn – Journal of Marriage and the Family, 1980
Age at marriage, marital duration, religiosity and income have an effect on thinking about divorce independent of their effect on marital dissatisfaction. Wife's employment and the presence of preschool children are likely to lead to thoughts about divorce. (Author)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Divorce, Economic Status, Factor Analysis
Peer reviewedShepard, Lorrie – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The California Entry Level Test (ELT) means are used with demographic variables to predict differences among California schools and districts on subsequent reading achievement tests. Factor analyses resulted in distinct factors for each of the subtests. The validity of the ELT was very high for its intended purpose. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Correlation, Factor Analysis, Grade 1, Predictive Validity
Peer reviewedReynolds, Cecil R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
The six subtests comprising the Metropolitan Readiness Tests were factor analyzed separately for White females, White males, Black females, and Black males. A single factor best described the structure of the test for each group. The factor structure was essentially invariant with regard to race and sex variables. (Author/CTM)
Descriptors: Black Students, Factor Analysis, Grade 1, Primary Education
Peer reviewedHull, Ray – Clearing House, 1980
To investigate student attitudes toward grades and grading processes and to determine whether student attitudes represented a generalized construct or a number of identifiable contributing factors, a 57-item opinionnaire was created and administered to 345 junior high school students in a single Eugene, Oregon, school. Results are reported.…
