Peer reviewedWhite, Arden – Counselor Education and Supervision, 1983
Factor analyzed the Counseling Orientation Preference Scale (COS) to investigate its validity. Data from 686 students and two previous samples suggested items were not identified cleanly with the a priori placements used in the original construction. Two major cluster groupings were found, suggesting some support for validity. (Author/JAC)

McDavis, Roderick J.; Martin, Alice A. – Journal of College Student Personnel, 1984
Administered the Survey of Student Personnel Objectives (SSPO) to students (N=637), faculty members (N=106), and student personnel administrators (N=38) to identify the underlying dimensions of the survey. Factor analysis indicated that the SSPO contains five factors: Personal Development Function, Liaison Function, Educator Function, Orientation…

Peer reviewedDess, Gregory G.; Beard, Donald W. – Administrative Science Quarterly, 1984
Reducing Aldrich's codification of organizational task environments from six to three dimensions--munificence (capacity), complexity (homogeneity-heterogeneity, concentration-dispersion), and dynamism (stability-instability, turbulence), the authors use interim and factor analytical techniques to explore each dimension's viability and draw…

Peer reviewedRandhawa, Bikkar S.; Hunt, Dennis – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1976
To determine cross-sectional similarity of the underlying structure of classroom environment variables, the Learning Environment Inventory and Primary Mental Abilities Test were administered to 46 eighth grade classes and 50 eleventh grade classes. Structures of affective and cognitive variables became very similar, however, a slight…

De Champlain, Andre F. – 1999
This paper provides a brief overview of some of the research that has examined the relationship between item response theory (IRT) and nonlinear factor analysis (NFA), and outlines three NLFA models, emphasizing their major strengths and weaknesses for practical applications. The focus is on: (1) R. McDonald's polynomial approximation of a normal…

Newgent, Rebecca A.; Lee, Sang Min; Higgins, Kristin K.; Mulvenon, Sean W. – Online Submission, 2004
The Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO PI-R) was developed to operationalize the Five-Factor Model of Personality. Using correlational analysis and confirmatory and exploratory factor analysis, the present study investigates the facet structure of the domain of Agreeableness of the NEO-PI-R at the facet and item level to assess which is a more…

Kieffer, Kevin M. – 1998
Factor analysis has historically been used for myriad purposes in the social and behavioral sciences, but an especially important application of this technique has been to evaluate construct validity. Since in the present milieu both exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) are readily available to the researcher,…

Kim, Se-Kang; Davison, Mark L. – 2003
This study was designed to explain how Profile Analysis via Multidimensional Scaling (PAMS) could be viewed as a structural equations model (SEM). The study replicated the major profiles extracted from PAMS in the context of the latent variables in SEM. Data involved the Basic Theme Scales of the Strong Campbell Interest Inventory (Campbell and…

Peer reviewedTracy, Lane – Industrial and Labor Relations Review, 1974
Certain noneconomic factors in collective bargaining are directly related to the negotiator's personal inclination to settle for the new contract. In this study, the pattern of relationships between the parties, the nature of the work itself, favorable recognition, team policy, and interpersonal relationships proved to be significantly related to…

Peer reviewedGreif, Esther Blank; Hogan, Robert – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1973
This paper reviewed several studies supporting the idea that empathy is an important aspect of interpersonal behavior and moral conduct and providing further evidence for the validity of an empathy scale. Minres factor analyses were performed to determine the underlying structure of the empathy scale and its relationship to the California…

Peer reviewedElton, Charles F.; Rose, Harriett A. – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1973
This study investigated the relationship between counseling center orientation and size of institution in which the center is located. The results indicated that institutional size predicts counseling center orientation but that a more qualitative evaluation of counseling centers requires other than census-type data. (Author/LA)

Data on 19 threshold work experience variables were obtained by interview from 183 high school graduates and 90 dropouts one and a half years after leaving school. Factor analyses of these data showed strikingly similar factor structures for both groups. (Author)
