WISC-R was administered to 76 subjects from rural school districts referred to a consulting school psychologist for learning problems. Each subject's results on old and new color formats of Coding B subtest were compared. Results suggest possibility of a color enhancement effect, at least with students having learning problems. Peer reviewedSchwartz, Steven A. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1978
A method for the construction of scales which combines the rational (or intuitive) approach with an empirical (item analysis) approach is presented. A step-by-step procedure is provided. (Author/JKS)

Peer reviewedSchmitt, Neal – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1978
Path analyses of two multitrait-multimethod matrices are used as examples of the kind of information afforded by application of the technique. It is concluded that the technique should be of considerable aid to researchers who want to evaluate the convergent and discriminant validity of their measures. (Author/CTM)

Peer reviewedBuchholz, Rogene A. – Industrial and Labor Relations Review, 1978
From factor analysis of workers' responses to a series of belief statements, the author found that the traditional work ethic beliefs received the least support and the humanistic belief system the strongest support in all occupations surveyed, from hourly laborers to professionals. It is shown that the common and unique variance estimates produced by a type of estimation procedure for the unrestricted common factor model have a predictable sum which is always greater than the maximum likelihood estimate of the total variance. Melges et al. (1971) presented evidence that a client's sense of self-worth is highly correlated with his degree of optimism about his personal future. Here the cross-lagged panel correlation (CLPC) technique was used to test their hypothesis that changes in personal future outlook lead to changes in self-esteem. (Editor/RK)
