Gross, Michael L.; And Others – Journal of Chemical Education, 1975
Isomeric ketones containing six or seven carbons are separated, illustrating the capability of chemical instrumentation for separating a group of closely related compounds. (MLH)
Descriptors: Chemical Analysis, Chemistry, Chromatography, College Science

Atkins, Robert C. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1975
Describes an experiment in which the iron content of a commercial vitamin tablet is determined by comparing its visible spectrum to the visible spectrum of a standardized iron solution. (MLH)
Descriptors: Chemical Analysis, Chemistry, College Science, Higher Education
Foster, Constance B. – Rutgers-Camden Law Journal, 1975
The court held in Kaimowitz v. Department of Mental Health that "involuntarily detained mental patients cannot give informed and adequate consent to experimental psychosurgical procedures on the brain." This note argues that the present theory of informed consent is inadequate for such cases and proposes a new theory. (JT)

Wolf, Walter A., Ed. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1975
Five brief items are discussed. They include (1) preservation of reactive ions in solid solution, (2) the molecular partition function, (3) purification of methoxychlor, (4) a kinetics experiment, and (5) determining molecular weights of acids. (RWH)

Deal, Walter J. – Journal of Chemical Education, 1975
Describes a series of experiments designed to verify the various relationships implicit in the ideal gas equation and shows that the success of the Graham's law effusion experiments can be explained by elementary hydrodynamics. (GS)

Provost, J. P. – American Journal of Physics, 1975
Presents a mathematical demonstration that the least action principle enables both the trajectories and the conservation laws (of energy, momentum, and angular momentum) to be obtained without using Lagrange's equations. Discusses an experimental procedure which utilizes air tables to demonstrate the conservation laws and interactions at a…

Landegren, G. F. – American Journal of Physics, 1975
Describes a device which employs two diffraction gratings and three or four simple lenses to produce arbitrary absorption or emission spectra that may be doppler shifted and spectroscopically examined by students some distance away. It may be regarded as a sort of artificial star whose spectrum may be analyzed as an undergraduate laboratory…

Throop, Robert K. – Catalyst for Change, 1975
Describes the Small Grants Award program developed by the North Country School Study Council and the Central New York School Study Council to help finance innovative projects proposed by teachers. (JG)
Descriptors: Change Strategies, Educational Experiments, Educational Innovation, Elementary Secondary Education

Kornhaber, Robert E.; Schroeder, Harold E. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1975
Studies the effectiveness of therapeutic modeling using dissimilar or similar models. Pre- and post-measures of fear were taken on behavioral and attitude dimensions. Behaviorally, model similarity in level of fear was unimportant, while similarity in age was. More similar models on either variable produced greater change in attitudes. (Author/SJL)

Dawes, John A. – School Science Review, 1975
Describes three experiments which investigated the behavior of "Colisa fasciata" males in full breeding condition subjected to competition for nest sites and a single female. Concludes that for these fish territorial dominance is established in a relatively short time, the period varying with the intensity of competition. (MLH)
