Peer reviewedCummins, Robert A.; And Others – International Journal of Disability, Development and Education, 1997
A study of 59 Australian people with an intellectual disability and 69 university students evaluated a new scale to measure the life quality of people with an intellectual disability. The Comprehensive Quality of Life Scale--Intellectual Disability was found to be a useful instrument to measure comparative life quality. (Author/CR)

Peer reviewedWall, Janet E.; And Others – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1996
Outlines the development of a new interest inventory based on the RIASEC (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional) model. Rigorous development procedures and outcomes of a large validation study attest to the inventory's validity and reliability; it was found to be psychometrically sound and systematically correlated…

Peer reviewedStiles, William B.; And Others – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1996
Examines the structure and construct validity of a therapists' intentions form. Ten therapists rated their therapeutic intentions following each of 2,305 therapy sessions. Seven conceptually coherent clusters of intentions were identified: treatment context, session structure, affect, obstacles, encouraging change, behavior, and cognition-insight.…

Peer reviewedMatson, Johnny L.; And Others – Research in Developmental Disabilities, 1997
A study explored the construct of general anxiety in 69 individuals with severe and profound mental retardation and evaluated the validity of the DASH-II anxiety subscale to determine its value in categorizing individuals with and without anxiety. Results indicated only behavioral symptoms associated with anxiety could be reliably assessed.…
Descriptors: Adults, Anxiety, Behavior Problems, Disability Identification
Peer reviewedDean, Paul J.; And Others – Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, 1996
Tested a model of the escape theory of suicide using various measures. After 114 college students completed all of the measures, statistical analysis failed to validate the proposed model. Socially prescribed perfectionism accounted for unique variance in suicide ideation; apparently, college students lean towards suicide when others have…

Peer reviewedColadarci, Theodore; Breton, William A. – Journal of Educational Research, 1997
This study examined the validity of the Teacher Efficacy Scale, modified for special education resource-room teachers. It also examined the relation between teacher efficacy and the frequency and utility of supervision. Perceived utility, but not frequency, of supervision was significantly related to teacher efficacy. (SM)
Descriptors: Elementary Secondary Education, Resource Teachers, Self Efficacy, Special Education Teachers
Scott, Marcia Strong; Tu, Shihfen; Fletcher, Kathryn L. – Education and Training in Developmental Disabilities, 2003
A preschool screening battery was presented to a sample of 198 children with and without mild learning problems. Cross-sample test validation was demonstrated when 81% of both groups were correctly classified. Interrater reliability of 80% or greater on all but one of the tasks was demonstrated. (Contains references.) (Author/PB)

Peer reviewedDavies, Patrick T.; Forman, Evan M.; Rasi, Jennifer A.; Stevens, Kristopher I. – Child Development, 2002
Evaluated new self-report measure assessing children's strategies for preserving emotional security in context of interparental conflict. Factor analyses of the Security in the Interparental Subsystem (SIS) Scale supported a 7-factor solution. The SIS demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Support for test…

Peer reviewedFriedman, Alfred S.; Utada, Arlene – Journal of Drug Education, 1989
Describes development of Adolescent Drug Abuse Diagnosis (ADAD), a 150-item instrument with a structured interview format, which produces a comprehensive evaluation of the life problem areas pertinent to the needs of adolescent drug abuse clients. A series of validity and reliability tests are described, along with characteristics of the…

Peer reviewedSmith, Richard M.; And Others – Journal of Dental Education, 1990
A study of inconsistent person-response patterns in the test with 1,000 students from each of 2 test administrations found a high incidence of atypical response patterns. The findings are seen as having serious implications for the admissions procedure, since atypical response patterns invalidate the standard scores reported for those students.…

Peer reviewedEldredge, J. Lloyd – Journal of Reading, 1990
Reviews the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory--High School Version (LASSI--HS). Notes strengths of the inventory--its focus on processes of learning rather than the products; its usefulness for low-achieving students; and its focus on issues related to motivation. Notes the lack of validity evidence. (RS)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Learning Strategies, Secondary Education, Student Motivation
Peer reviewedGross, Alan L. – Psychometrika, 1990
A model is proposed for investigating test validity as a predictor of a criterion variable when there are both missing and censored scores in the data set. Implications for maximum likelihood estimation are discussed, and the method is illustrated with hypothetical data sets. (SLD)
Descriptors: Equations (Mathematics), Mathematical Models, Maximum Likelihood Statistics, Predictive Measurement
Peer reviewedShapiro, Jon; And Others – Journal of Research in Reading, 1990
Administers a battery of auditory perceptual processing tasks to 103 reading disabled children and 103 average readers. Finds that auditory discrimination did not discriminate between the groups. States that 2 levels of phonological awareness exist and that screening and diagnostic instruments should address both to have predictive validity. (MG)
Descriptors: Auditory Discrimination, Auditory Tests, Learning Problems, Perception Tests
Peer reviewedBrookings, Jeffrey B.; Bolton, Brian – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1989
The United States Employment Service Interest Inventory (USES-II), a self-report instrument that measures an individual's relative strength of interests in 12 broad occupational categories, was completed by 732 adult clients at a medical and vocational rehabilitation institution.
