For 235 ninth-grade students, intercorrelations of Guilford's structure-of-intellect (SOI) tests and of three measures of critical thinking were factor analyzed. The study reveals the viability of using SOI constructs involving cognition and evaluation of semantic content as likely explanatory components of critical thinking. (Author/AL)

Two scales were submitted together for factor analyses in order to determine the extent to which the dimensions of locus of control and anomie were related from the perspective of adolescents. Studying the validity of the Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning (DIAL), 53 kindergartners took the DIAL before school entrance and then had their Slosson Intelligence Test scores and Metropolitan Readiness Tests monitored for the school year. Certain groupings of behaviors (factors) from a list of behaviors on the Referral Preference Rating Scale (RPRS) were identified as problem behaviors by high school teachers. Results show that the RPRS not only identified the teachers' main concerns but clustered them in terms of the most disruptive behaviors. (Author/GK)

Studied the concurrent and predictive validity of the Career Decision Scale administered to 206 seniors. Rated students' descriptions of their career decisions. A year later, students were surveyed by telephone about career decisions. Determined factor scores taken during the senior year were good predictors of student decisions. (Author/RC)
