Selden, Steven – Phi Delta Kappan, 1984
Critiques Arthur Jensen's concept of a "reality principle" in educational research from the March 1984 "Phi Delta Kappan." Emphasizes that objectivity and ideology are complementary, not contradictory, aspects of educators' work. (MD)
Descriptors: Educational Research, Environment, Heredity, Intelligence Quotient
Peer reviewedNaglieri, Jack A. – Journal of School Psychology, 1984
Examined mean scores and predictive validity coefficients obtained from the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R), the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC), and the Peabody Individual Achievement Test (PIAT). All three tests were administered to 35 Navajo children. Results supported general use of the K-ABC with…
Descriptors: American Indians, Children, Elementary Education, Intelligence Tests
Peer reviewedJeffrey, Timothy B.; Jeffrey, Louise K. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Utilized time-saving Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) scoring procedures in two ex post facto investigations following approaches outlined by Vincent (1979) and Himelstein (1983). Results indicated high correlation between the Vincent and Himelstein approaches and WAIS Verbal, Performance, and Full Scale IQs while maintaining integrity of…

Peer reviewedSilva, Phil A.; And Others – Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology, 1983
Prevalence of specific comprehension, expressive, and general language delay varied for 2.0 to 4.3 percent. General language delays were the most stable. Every type of language delay at each age was associated with significantly higher prevalence of low intelligence or reading difficulties at age seven than among the total sample. (Author/CL)
Descriptors: Elementary Education, Intelligence, Language Acquisition, Language Handicaps
Peer reviewedPerna, Samual J., Jr.; And Others – Behavioral Disorders, 1983
Results of a study involving 63 emotionally disturbed boys (10-15 years old) revealed that Ss with a higher degree of internal lows of control (LOC) made greater gains in academic achievement. Ss' chronological ages and IQ cores did not affect their degree of internal LOC. (Author/CL)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Emotional Disturbances, Intelligence Quotient, Locus of Control
Williamson, David M.; Mislevy, Robert J.; Almond, Russell G. – 2001
This study investigated statistical methods for identifying errors in Bayesian networks (BN) with latent variables, as found in intelligent cognitive assessments. BN, commonly used in artificial intelligence systems, are promising mechanisms for scoring constructed-response examinations. The success of an intelligent assessment or tutoring system…
Descriptors: Artificial Intelligence, Bayesian Statistics, Cognitive Tests, Mathematical Models
Kim, Se-Kang; Davison, Mark L. – 2003
A study was conducted to examine how principal components analysis (PCA) and Profile Analysis via Multidimensional Scaling (PAMS) can be used to diagnose individuals observed score profiles in terms of core profile patterns identified by each method. The standardization sample from the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Third Edition…
Descriptors: Children, Factor Analysis, Factor Structure, Intelligence Tests
Hyun, Eunsook – 2000
This paper explores the development of the "ecological human brain" in children, children's intellectual culture of "naturalist intelligence," and developmentally and culturally congruent curricula for young children. In early cognitive development, nature-given perception conducts thought. In contrast, for adults, intellectual…

Peer reviewedMadaus, George F.; And Others – American Educational Research Journal, 1973
The causal model approach used in this study tested the cumulative hierarchical structure of the six major taxonomic levels of Bloom's Taxonomy by measuring the strengths of the linear relationships ( links'') between levels. (Editor)
Descriptors: Classification, Elementary School Students, Intelligence, Models
Peer reviewedGranat, Kristina; Granat, Sven – American Journal of Mental Deficiency, 1973
The hypothesis that it is possible to find among a normal population a group with the same level of intelligence as a group of institutionalized retarded persons was confirmed in a study of 2,000 19-year-old males registering for military service. (Authors)
Descriptors: Classification, Exceptional Child Research, Intelligence, Mental Retardation
Peer reviewedEllingson, Robert J.; Lathrop, Gerald H. – American Journal of Mental Deficiency, 1973
The alpha rhythm frequencies (8 to 13 cycles per second, occurring during a S's relaxed state with eyes closed, measured by the electroencephalogram) of three groups of Ss (30 Down's Syndrome residents, 21 psychiatric patients, and 10 university students) aged 13 to 24 years, were determined according to explicit criteria. (Author/MC)

Peer reviewedRamey, Craig T.; And Others – Child Development, 1973
Infants in a day care center were studied until age 36 months and tested periodically with the Bayley Scales, the Stanford-Binet, and the ITPA. Predictions of I.Q. were fulfilled much better than in previous studies and a constant environment was suggested as a contributing factor. (ST)
Descriptors: Environmental Influences, Infants, Intelligence Tests, Longitudinal Studies
Peer reviewedDuncan, Barbara; Eliot, John – Child Development, 1973
Kindergarten children were tested on Kershner's spatial model, two WISC performance tests, and two Piagetian tasks. Results validated Kershner's work but not his claims that his test measures conservation or dimensional concepts. (ST)
Descriptors: Abstract Reasoning, Conservation (Concept), Intelligence Tests, Kindergarten
