An Adult Vocational Maturity Inventory was administered to graduate students, unemployed men and vocational trainees. Results indicated that graduate students had the highest level of vocational maturity and unemployed men the lowest, thus supporting the hypothesis that vocational maturity can be quantitatively measured. Analysis of the prestige rankings of 269 students showed that the sample confirmed previous studies except that service and academic positions were upgraded while research jobs were down graded, interindividual variability was greater than hypothesized, and subgroups tended to upgrade occupations related to their area of specialization.
