The intercorrelations among the 12 subtests of the WISC-R were analyzed for each of the 11 age groups in the standardization sample. Clusters were found that corresponded to the verbal and performance Scales. There was also some evidence of a third group of subtests, drawn from both scales. (Author/BW)

WISC-R subtest profiles were examined for 20 learning disabled and 20 mentally retarded children. The rank order of the WISC-R subtests supports the concept of distinct Patterns for these exceptional children. Using a clinically relevant sample of 76 nonimpaired and 23 organically impaired children, Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised IQs predicted by the index were found to correlate at only minimal and nonsignificant levels with actual IQs.
