Peer reviewedBelmont, Lillian; And Others – Science, 1978
This study of young men from two-child families shows that birth-order effect and level of ability were not influenced by length of interval between firstborn and secondborn. (MP)
Descriptors: Birth Order, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Family Structure
Peer reviewedEllis, Norman R. – Intelligence, 1978
A reevaluation of a number of experiments suggests that normal and retarded persons differ on short-term memory tasks from the time of initial stimulus exposure. The hypothesis that memory differences are due to differential encoding as a result of more adequate rehearsal by the normal subjects is unacceptable. (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Cognitive Processes, Intelligence Differences, Learning Processes, Literature Reviews
Peer reviewedSilverstein, A. B. – Psychology in the Schools, 1978
Correlations with Binet IQ in the ITPA normative sample were corrected for restricted intelligence range. The corrected correlation for the Psycholinguistic Quotient is as high as that between the WISC and the Binet, a finding that raises a serious question about the construct validity of the ITPA. (Author)
Descriptors: Comparative Testing, Intelligence Tests, Norm Referenced Tests, Research Projects
Peer reviewedCarlson, Jerry S.; Dillon, Ronna – Volta Review, 1978
Regular booklet and puzzle forms of the Raven Coloured Progressive Matrices were administered to 70 deaf elementary students to determine the effects of testing-the-limits procedure. (Author/CL)

Peer reviewedFlynn, John T.; Anderson, Barbara E. – Educational Research Quarterly, 1977
The effect of test-wise behavior on mental ability and achievement test performance was investigated. When test-wise and test-naive college students were instructed in test-taking skills, both groups demonstrated significant gains in test wiseness. While instruction did not affect test performance, the test-wise subjects performed more…
