Peer reviewedBecker, Betsy Jane; Hedges, Larry V. – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1984
This article extends both the logic and the statistical procedures used in a recent analysis of Hyde's data on gender differences in cognitive abilities by Rosenthal and Rubin. The logic of a "model fitting" approach to meta-analysis is described. Relevant statistical procedures and goodness-of-fit tests are illustrated. (Author/BS)

Peer reviewedAthappilly, Kuriakose; And Others – Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, 1983
The aggregate findings of experiments with modern mathematics for the last 30 years show that there have not been many detrimental effects of "new math" either on achievement or attitude. This article is a response to Ruth Wade's meta-analysis of inservice teacher education research in the same issue of "Educational Leadership" (EA 518 308). Factors making a difference in inservice education are identified, but more work needs to be done in understanding the specific, practical details, allowing application. (DCS)

Peer reviewedKulik, James A.; And Others – American Educational Research Journal, 1984
This synthesis of findings from 40 studies showed that students can raise their test scores by taking practice tests. The size of the gains were a function of three factors: identical vs. parallel forms of the test, number of practice tests, and ability level of the student. (Author/BW)

Inoue, Yukiko – 1999
Although there are three main computer-assisted instruction (CAI) formats (drill and practice, simulation, and tutorial), tutorial format is particularly suitable to conceptual school subjects because this format: (1) explains the concept of the text; (2) tests the understanding of the topic; and (3) selects the next step of the subject. When a…

Talk remains by far the most used medium of instruction and classroom action.
